In the past, each kid has left with their own free fishing rod and reel.
Thanks PF! The kids would love this, I'll see if we can swing by (we have to come up for hair cuts that day).

They will stock the lake a day or two before. I'd bet they each catch at least one. And they get a CPW rod and reel too. We will be teaching fly casting to some kids (and maybe a few adults) as well.
We were there bright and early, my grandgirlies and I, and had a great time. Every single ranger interaction was awesome and the girls loved every minute. I think the highlight was finding the beaver lodge and dam that one ranger told us about. Who would have thought that that outshone the fish catching?
What a lovely treat to run into you there MtnGramma! We had a blast doing both the fishing and the archery. On a funny note, the couple fishing next to us were having great luck with using meal worms and offered some to the munchkins. We got to talking and realized we all looked familiar to each other, and as soon as we introduced ourselves, discovered we were Facebook friends who hadn't had a chance to meet in person (friends of friends)! It's a small world after all.
I second the wonderful interactions with the CO Parks & Wildlife personnel, and the Evergreen Trout Unlimited volunteers who were so helpful. Thank you to them all!
The kids are ecstatic about getting their very own fishing rods, and we even managed to catch one!
Our very own Photo-fish, in front of the camera for a change.

I hope there will be another one. Having it over Memorial Day weekend was hard to decide what to attend. The parade and a visit to Fort Logan Cemetery took precedence.
Thanks for the pix. Not as crowded as I thought it would be so lots of opportunity to learn lots of new things? PVOS is such a lovely place.
Will there be another opportunity PF do you know? We spent most of our time at a rest home honoring Veterans, a stop at Fort Logan Cemetery and a parade. Lovely but would have liked to have the youngsters participate too.
It was too sunny to catch fish. I had good luck in the AM before all the kids showed up and then again after 3:00 when the clouds came back in. I was bummed about the lack of food. In previous years DOW has relied on donations to supply food to all of the attendees. This year without the donations, they stopped at safeway and bought just enough for the helpers. There was a family that was having a picnic in the next shelter over and when they heard about the shortage, they offered theirs and fed at least 5 - 6 of the families that were hanging around. Real nice folks.

Ashley,
There is another one scheduled for Sunday June 29th at Evergreen Lake. This one is sponsored by the Evergreen ELKS and Evergreen Trout Unlimited.
