Conifer kidnapping

Suspect ordered juvenile victim to drive him to Pueblo

Jefferson County, CO. – On August 20th at 3:45 p.m., a 16-year-old male stopped at the King Soopers store located at 25637 Conifer Rd. on his way home. The juvenile purchased items and returned to his Jeep Wrangler. The victim got behind the wheel of his car and noticed the rear passenger door open and an adult male got inside. The male told the victim that he had a gun and ordered him to “shut up and drive”. The suspect directed the victim to drive him to Pueblo because he was out of money and lost his ride. The victim was frightened and complied. The victim stopped for gasoline at a Shell Gas Station in Colorado Springs and then continued on to Pueblo. The victim was ordered to stop at an ATM machine, withdraw money from the victim’s account and give it to the suspect. The suspect then directed the victim to stop at a residence and wait outside. Again, the victim complied. The suspect knocked on the door but no one answered. The suspect then returned to the car and told the victim to drive away. A couple of blocks later, the suspect told the victim to pull over, at which time the suspect got out of the Jeep and fled on foot. The victim called 911 and reported the incident to the Pueblo Police.

The victim described the suspect as a White, male, 18 – 23 years old, 6’0” tall, skinny build with a boney face, “high and tight” short brown hair, discolored teeth, multiple tattoos from his shoulders to his elbows, across his back and a tattoo shaped like a necklace around his neck. The suspect wore blue jeans and no shirt. The victim also described the suspect’s voice as high and nasally, possibly having some sort of speech impediment.

Investigators were able to locate surveillance video and photos from the gas station. (See attachments) Anyone with information regarding this crime or the suspect is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612, or call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).

ARRESTED!

The at-large suspect responsible for the kidnapping of a 16-year-old male from the Conifer King Soopers on August 20th has been identified and arrested.

After receiving a variety of tips from both citizens and law enforcement, investigators were able to positively identify Dakota Holand (dob 082295) as the suspect in the kidnapping.

Holand is currently in custody for auto theft after being arrested by Aurora Police Department in a stolen car at 8 a.m. this morning.

Charges related to the kidnapping and robbery in Jeffco are forthcoming, although the suspect remains in custody in Aurora on unrelated charges.

We would like to give a big THANK YOU to our wonderful community who called in several tips that helped us identify Holand. We also appreciated Holand having his name tattooed on his back, which helped identify him as well.

Kidnapping Suspect Approached Several Women Before Crime, Police Say
August 27, 2015

CONIFER, Colo. (CBS4) – Investigators say they believe the suspect in a kidnapping case on Colorado’s Front Range may have picked his victim after approaching several women in a parking lot outside a grocery store.

Police say Holand was captured in Aurora after allegedly stealing a car out of Canon City. Investigators said they aren’t sure how the suspect was able to travel from Pueblo to Canon City before then reaching Aurora.

Holand’s sister told CBS4 her brother was left stranded in Conifer last week without a car or phone and with no way to contact family members. She says she doesn’t think he meant to scare the teen.
