Fire behind Meridian Campground off of 43

Our friends at KZ Ranch called this fire in around 5:00 many fire units have headed back since the initial call, they said it did not appear to be big mostly smoldering.

They said many hunters back in that area at this time so maybe they did not properly put out a campfire.

They have a good view of it from their place and will keep us informed is anything looks like it is growing.

Winds have calmed up here from what they were earlier so that is good.

If anyone is listening to a scanner please post if you hear anything different.

Thanks

Thank you HappyCamper. This started while I was at the Jeffco School Board Candidate Forum last night and the internet access is really bad at West Jeff Middle - it was all I could do just to reply to Facebook posts and Tweets, trying to open the website was impossible. I appreciate you covering it!

Posted by Platte Canyon Fire this morning:

Yesterday (10/13/15) evening Platte Canyon Fire Department engaged a small wildfire in the area of the Church Creek drainage near Royal Ridge Rd. The fire was on Forest Service Property and was contained at 2300 hrs. Smoke from the fire might still be visible during the the day today while crews from the USFS and PCFPD work towards full control. Thanks for all who reported the smoke.
