interesting about the masonry heaters. i think cost wise i would opt for a wood stove if i wanted heat. if building from scratch i would invest in more insulation and more windows facing south than a stove/heater - at least in bailey. we know several from bailey who have wood stoves and they use them for decoration only - flowers or family pictures on them. not often cold enough to warrant use of a stove when they are south facing.

So more of a row style house - what they used to call a shotgun shack (of course much better built) instead of the standard rectangle home for heat efficiency?

Just curious as to which is more efficient.
