Am wondering about plumbers

so what does it take To get one of the four plumbers up here who have contracted with my home warranty company to answer their phones? I get it's a holiday, but part of their contracts is to work holidays as well.

I wouldn't bother them, but I really like having water in my house for little odd things like, oh, flushing a toilet, giving the dogs water, so forth. I wouldn't bother them if it were a frozen pipe - that I can thaw. However, I cannot fix a pump.

bummer! looks like it is time to melt some snow to flush the toilet and have water to drink. i hope they get back to you soon. looks like you also have something to discuss with your home warranty company too.

Indeed. And they have something to discuss with their contractors.

Luckily, I fill old milk jugs with water and stick them in the garage for winter power outs, so we have enough water for flushing and such til tomorrow. And I plan to keep harrassing the warranty company as well.

Most likely if on a well your pipes from or between the well and house were/are frozen. Plumbers cannot thaw those, you need to call a well pump company. So long as it is a copper line, it is real easy to unthaw, if it is plastic and distance from house to well is small and access to well can be had it can be done.

Just got back home. Went to flush the master toilet and voila'. No flushee!

It seems the shower, sink and toilet in the master bath are frozen. Water works throughout the rest of the house.

What is the best way to safely "unthaw" pipes? I am really surprised they frooze. The house temp was in the 60s.

AV, had the same thing in a log cabin after 3 days below zero (5 years ago). Froze even at 60 inside. Dang leaky cabin walls. Try a hair dryer with a faucet on so it will start dripping and clear it.

LH, check your circuit breakers and fuses. You can also drain water from the hot water heater to flush. Need a hose for the lower drain connection.

Home warranty companies just like car warranty companies are worthless. You are on your own. Wish for warm weather to thaw your pipes.
When I lived in Burland my well went dry from Dec to April --- nothing anyone could do.

We fixed it ourselves this time, but pump will die in the next year.

Home warranties are far from worthless - I've had over $33,000 of work done to three different homes through home warranties. Total cost to me for those repairs (other than monthly rate) $160. Well worth it to me to keep it.
