Husband says they can track it and log it - the question is - do they?

Depends. Some actively track it and report the worst offenders. Some passively track and report only when it's suspected in affecting performance.

It might not seem like a problem until they need to choose someone to lay off. Then the question might be raised "Who spends the most time on the internet?"

One thing for sure - almost every mid or large sized company does track all internet and email. If they offer wifi for the phones, they'll be tracking that as well.

It's the company's resources so they can do what they want.

However, just checking something every now and then isn't a big non-no in my book.

The Internet has been a huge productivity hit for most companies.

I suspect your company has been monitoring for a long time and finally decided to put an end to the abuse.

Surfing the internet and posting online while you are on the clock is totally dishonest.
People who do not work every minute that they are at work should be fired.
