I think you start with a wash cloth so you learn all the basics but wind up with something to show for it. Warning: it gets a wee bit addictive. Diane's got some cashmere and alpaca yarns in there that are like crack. Good luck!!

Diane started us out knitting two washcloths -- we learned cast on, knit, purl, yarnovers, increases, decreases and bind off. It was great. Once you do that, you pretty much begin knitting scarves and hats immediately. Then, Rivendale Farms made me adopt two fiber goats from the Estes Wool Market and .... oh lord! .... your life changes dramatically!
