DENVER -- Kroger, the parent company of King Soopers and City Market, sent an e-mail to customers that said a database with customer names and e-mail addresses had been breached by someone outside of the company.
"This database contains the names and e-mail addresses of customers who voluntarily provided their names and e-mail addresses to Kroger," officials said in an email. " We want to assure you that the only information that was obtained was your name and e-mail address."
Kroger warned customers not to open emails from senders they do not know and apologized for the inconvenience.
The customers do not "voluntarily" provide their information. They are forced to give this info by economic punishment in the form of higher prices at the stores and higher gas prices at Loaf-N-Jug. This should require for Kroger to give greater security which cannot be breached.
