Well the game would end up being a 4 point difference. So I had a win and they had a loss on the same game due to the spread. Then they would want me to take the (-5) to make it fair so we all picked the same game with the same spread, even though I picked that game when the spread was better at (-3). I wouldn't have picked that game if it was (-5). I would have picked another game. So that turned into several arguments. So VL complained enough to have them take at least one win away from me that way. After that we all had to take the same spread that was posted by a specific posting at a specific time. But I still ended up winning the season.

Maybe what I proposed was to simple for everyone elses tastes, I'd rather skip the book making aspect and give everyone a chance to lock in their votes one hour before the games begin and report the results based on which teams won. Simple rules makes for a more simple contest and less opportunity for complaints later on. If the three teams you picked win you get credit for all three wins, two of the three win you get two wins, etc. I also think this would be easier to track if it was limited to the NFL, if anyone whats to start a separate NCAA thread they would be welcome to do so.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

We have to have the spread in there though. In the NFL, there could be 3 easy blowout games each week. The spread is the equalizor. As VL said, it makes the picks about 50/50. And I think a college one this year would be fun too.

Skip the bookmaking aspect and I will join in.

How about one of each. Pick 3 and Pick 3 with the spread? There has to be one with the spread.

Forgive me for the tangent but, now you'll have a contest that parallels our current legal system; OJ was found not guilty in the criminal court but guilty in the civil case against him. In other words the Bungles could loose to the Broncos 7 to 14 but with the spread the Bungles won 15 to 14 because of the spread. The consequences could be that Otis won and lost in the same game depending on which thread you want to track. IMHO, your teams win or loose according to the real points scored in the games they play each week.

I have no ownership over how the contest is run, my suggestions are just that, suggestions. If the majority wants to include the spread so be it, the only issue I'm trying to point out is that each participant in the contest could use the spread as a decision making tool right up to the hour before each game instead of using it as a factor after the games have been played.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Hmmmm wouldnt that be the way they decide who goes to the superbowl? If we are playing the spread lets play for real money. Who wants to be commissioner? and bookie?

I'm in this time around! Viking's right, we need the spread - it makes it tougher to choose (can the Broncos win by at least 5 versus just win - adds a degree of difficulty).

It's about time everyone! We need to establish rules, and set a deadline for putting in your picks (it was Wed last year, right?)
