Jay Cutler trade may set Denver Broncos back five years, Scouts Inc. expert tells ESPN

http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/20 ... s_espn.php

Orton is a perfect example of why I am not a stats girl. Even great champions have bad or close games. What separates the men from the boys is the ability to win those games and that is about timing. At the end of the game the QB that knows how to be calm and get it done is the great QB. So, the bipolar approach to Orton was so stupid. He was so boring because all he could throw was 3 yrd slant, 3 yrd slant and maybe a screen but if asked if asked to throw a timing play he could not time it and I swear, why McD even tried that fade in the corner of the end zone is beyond me. He could not time a play to save his life. So when he got good numbers the stat whores would go crazy with love again. Hence this article.

If you do not have a QB that can throw the long ball then you have someone that cannot get a interference call at the end of the game or get big play with 35 seconds left in the game.

Timing is everything and Orton had none and it bugged me all year how people that like stats loved him. He still sucked. Tebow is going run circles around Orton. I have hated him the whole time and I did the same thing with Greise. All my friends loved Greise and I hated him from day one. I don't know why Shanny gave him 6 years without proof. They all defended him and said I was nuts until he left then they agreed. Same with Orton. When he had his big stats game and won I knew the next week he would lose and he did. Stats don't win, timing does.

Football is about timing and Orton had no timing, including that damn fade into the corner of the end zone. He only completed that play once or twice all year but they tried it almost every time they were in the red zone.

Jay Cutler is no teddy bear Rick Reilly

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=6017986

"One time, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan thought it would be helpful for Cutler and Broncos legend John Elway to have lunch. Let Cutler drink in some of Elway's experience.

The three of them sat down at a Denver steak joint. Elway, polite as ever, tried to impart some wisdom. Except Cutler wasn't looking at Elway. He wasn't looking at Shanahan, either. He was looking at the TV. The whole time. With his baseball cap on backward. All the way through dessert. Elway did not leave impressed"
.

Now my thoughts on Cutler, until he stops making that one play that changes the whole game because he is trying too hard, he will never be a great. His ego writes checks his team cannot cash. And he is a prick.

I don't know how many people noticed that play at the 2 when he tried to shovel pass the ball because he was about to be sacked last week, but it was almost taken away. He almost f'd it up it is just that no one noticed that , because they won. He has at least one of those plays every game and it is usually when close and at the goal line. That and his I can do no wrong attitude is his problem. Not sure you can change that in someone. Otherwise he can be good with flashes of brilliance but to be a champion you have to have your whole game together.

Frankly, I initially liked Cutler initially. He had promise with his big arm and scrambling ability. What became evident subsequently, is his poor decision making. He may still grow into a better decision making QB, but it will take lots of time. So he may win some big games, but then, like Farve, he is going to loose BIG games because he will make that stupid throw that will give the game away. Getting to the Superbowl requires consistency, an attribute he lacks. GB ought to expose him once again.

He is a good QB. His ego is the only thing holding his talent down.

ha...He's got a 1 in 3,800,678,765 arm. Understand? He is literally the best at throwing a football on earth.
