Starting November 1st, you can schedule your donations to your favorite mountain area nonprofits for CO Gives Day! Go to www.coloradogives.org/ and search by name to find their Profile Page, then choose how much to donate on December 8th to help support their missions and increase their eligibility for the $1M incentive fund from Community First Foundation and 1st Bank.

COVID-19 is having many impacts on this place we call home, and we've seen so many more people requiring the services that our nonprofit organizations provide.

Colorado Gives Day is December 8!

You can schedule your gift to Bootstraps TODAY at ColoradoGives.org/Bootstraps. Your gift will count towards Colorado Gives Day and will receive a portion of the incentive fund sponsored by Community First Foundation and FirstBank.

Colorado Gives Day is an annual statewide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy through online giving. The event is powered by ColoradoGives.org, a year-round, online giving platform. Donors can easily search for our profile on the site and make safe and secure donations.

Colorado Gives Day is one of our most important fundraisers of the year. Donations help us do more to support the community and ensure more mountain-area students can pursue their educational dreams. Our goal is to raise $40,000 this year, which is a big part of our annual operating budget. We also want to get a share of the $1 Million Incentive Fund.

Bootstraps provides scholarships and interest-free loans to graduating high school seniors in the mountain area for the purpose of continuing education. In 2020, our 75th year, we awarded the most ever in scholarships and loans - $244,000 to 67 new and continuing students. Since 1945 over $4.5 million has been awarded to more than 2,000 students.

Your donations help our high school students achieve their dreams of going to college, for which we are grateful to play a part in assisting.

Mission – Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice supports our mountain community by providing compassionate and experienced care during challenging times.

Mount Evans delivers medical care to patients who are recuperating from an injury, living with a chronic illness, or facing end-of-life issues in the comfort of their own residences. Mount Evans also helps family members by offering counseling and bereavement services. Last year our clinical staff delivered over 25,000 patient visits across a four county area regardless of age or the ability to pay. Our bereavement services and caregiver support groups are available to all in on our mountain community, even if the patient is not or was not under Mount Evans care.

History - Mount Evans Hospice was founded in Evergreen, Colorado, in 1980 by a group of volunteers who responded to the community’s need for hospice care, offering terminally ill patients the option to die with dignity and in comfort in their own homes. Mount Evans Hospice was one of the first hospice organizations in Colorado. In 1995, Mount Evans launched Camp Comfort, a weekend bereavement camp to address the specialized needs of grieving children. In addition to hospice services and home health care, we have expanded to include palliative care, thus providing a coordinated program model that helps ensure community members receive the level of comfort and care needed for their best life during challenging times. Good news to share in 2020: During 2020, we have been honored by the Rotary Club of Golden with the Ethics in Business Award (nonprofit category) and recently received the Top Company in Health Care Award from ColoradoBiz.com.

Since our founding in 1973, our mission has been to preserve and protect the history of the Evergreen mountain area. We have a strong connection to the Hiwan museum in providing educators and funds for the children's historical education programs. We also provide volunteer tour guides at the Hiwan museum. Our Name has Changed!
The Jefferson County Historical Society Board members unanimously voted to re-brand our historical society's name to accurately define our focus on regional history. With the help from surveyed JCHS members last year, our name is now Evergreen Mountain Area Historical Society(EMAHS). This name was chosen to be more accurately inclusive of Evergreen and our surrounding communities in the mountains of Jefferson County. Our non-profit organization and mission will continue to protect, preserve and promote the history of the mountain area in Jefferson County Colorado. EMAHS gratefully continues its operation at the Hiwan Museum through the cooperative agreement of Jefferson County Open Space.

Created in 2012, Friends of Staunton State Park's mission is “Working in partnership with others to preserve, promote and protect the wildlife, natural beauty and historic legacy of Staunton State Park for present and future generations” underlies every action we take; we hope you will join us in this effort by donating or volunteering, and come enjoy the beauty and serenity that Staunton has to offer every day."

This past year has been a challenge for all of us; yet, we have had some incredible accomplishments and look forward to an exciting year ahead. The two we'd like to touch on and highlight include:

1. Recently being awarded a $50,000 grant from the State Historical Fund in order to restore the roof on the Staunton Homestead Cabin, which is designated on the National Registry of Historic Places, and


2. Our purchase of Mark 5, the 5th Action Track Chair at Staunton State Park, thanks to our partnership with Team Becker of The Home Loan Experts. Having 5 chairs, and over 20 Staunton volunteers who have gone out on hikes with visitors with disabilities, the 2020 Track Chair season saw over 200 hikes - a new record for helping put smiles on faces!

We can only do what we do thanks to the generous support of friends such as YOU who fund our efforts to Preserve, Promote, and Protect Staunton State Park. We would be so grateful if you considered donating to help us do even more next year! Thank you for your support! Below is the list of our 2020 Accomplishments and Goals, and our President's Letter to Friends of Staunton State Park members, shared at our annual meeting last week during which 3 new board members joined our Board of Directors.

Accomplishments and Future Goals: 2020

Track-Chair Program:

• Purchased Staunton’s 5th track chair - Mark 5
• Formed successful partnership with Climb for the Kids to raise funds for the purchase of Mark 5
• Purchased attendant joystick and necessary accessories for Mark 5
• Funded the Track Chair maintenance program, including replacement batteries for Mark 1, Mark 3, and Mark 4
• Recognized and honored top track chair volunteers at end of season event

Preservation of Historic Staunton Homestead Cabin:

• Formed Preservation Committee to focus efforts of our new cornerstone project – restoration of Staunton Homestead Cabin
• Purchased custom fitted tarps to temporarily protect the roof of the Staunton Cabin and installed these tarps in conjunction with park staff and volunteers
• Designed and printed brochures & mini cards to educate visitors and promote fundraising
• Collaborated with CPW, HistoriCorps, Alan Ford Architects, and the State Historical Fund to apply for and win a $50,000 grant to replace the roof on the Staunton Cabin

General Park Support:

• Created new Friends of Staunton State Park website
• Funded taxidermy of and mount for a Great Horned Owl in the Visitor Center
• Supported Park Activities & Events – Conifer Christmas Parade, 1st Day Hikes, Marmot Fest, Mark Madsen Accessibility Celebration, and Hike or Treat

Future Goals:

• Continued Funding of Cornerstone Projects – Track Chair & Preservation of Staunton Cabin
• Continue working with and building strong relationships with Park staff and volunteers
• Focus on new opportunities to increase fundraising efforts to support Staunton State Park.

On behalf of the staff at CAE…..thank you! We are so grateful to everyone that came out to support A Day of Evening for the Arts. In a country that has been so divided, our mountain community proved that together we are better. It was a perfect day to celebrate the arts and our community. Thank you all for wearing your masks, making the day special, and keeping the Arts Alive in our Mountain Community. To top it off, we honored our Arts People of the Year, Drucie French and Steve Cumbie.

To make the day even more exciting, Drucie and Steve announced a $25,000 donation for Colorado Gives Day on December 8th. Their generous donation will serve as a match for all donations that we receive that day. We know this has been a challenging year for everyone and we realize that we have had to make additional asks in order for CAE to remain viable during these trying times. So to our patrons, thank you for supporting us through your donations, patronage, and goodwill. The money we raised in May helped us through these difficult times. If you are able to donate again or if you have yet to make a gift, please know that we will use these funds to sustain CAE through the upcoming winter months. None of us can predict what lies ahead for the pandemic, but I can assure you that we have been and will continue to be judicious with the funds that we raise. Our goal is to continue to provide a sanctuary for the community to ignite their imagination, share a smile, and spread hope.

If you weren’t able to make it on Saturday, the Word: Art Meets Advertising exhibition is open through December 5th. It is a must see! We have received so much positive feedback on the show. In the words of one patron, “New York came to Evergreen.” If you come in, please stop by and say hello, we always love seeing our friends.

In addition, on December 11 and 12, we will have a small Holiday Market in conjunction with the opening of our Wonders of Winter Show. Please mark your calendars.

This year, as in past years, PeaceWorks has much to be grateful and thankful for. We begin by being grateful for all of you, our supporters. Without you, we would not be as successful in bringing about change in peoples lives in times of crisis, and awareness in our community. Without you, we would not have clothes for people who come to us with nothing but the clothes on their back, nor would we have much needed supplies for the ongoing needs of the shelter. And, without your support, we would feel alone in our mission. We are grateful that we have all of you who continue to hold us up.

This month, Thanksgiving may look a little different than usual, with COVID in our midst. Thanksgiving is a time when many families are used to traveling long distances to celebrate together. This will not be the case this year for many people. Virtual Thanksgiving may replace the in-person celebrations. Seniors who are used to being with their loved ones may find themselves not able to attend nearby friends/families homes due to the higher risk it poses for them. Sometimes it is difficult to be grateful when we are feeling that our lives are turned upside down and we are missing out on doing the things that make us happy. Remember, there is always something to be grateful for.

Meet Our New Artistic Director at The Venue!
AMY FLETCHER is thrilled to be taking on the role of Artistic Director of the Venue Theatre and is looking forward to bringing her vision of theatre education and performance creation to the foothills and its many aspiring artists. She is a native New Yorker with thirty five years of experience in professional theatre. After performing on Broadway and in numerous touring productions, Amy began pursuing a career as an educator and mentor. She has worked at several high schools, as a professor of Theatre and Dance at Five Towns College and achieved her MFA in interdisciplinary arts and theatre education from Goddard College. She was thrilled to join the Venue Theatre, after relocating to Colorado with her amazing husband Michael and son Matthew. Venue director and/or choreographer credits include:Thoroughly Modern Millie, Bye Bye Birdie, Guys and Dolls, Urinetown, Anything Goes, Newsies, Venue on Broadway and Venue Through the Years.
