Website ADA Compliance

Most people are familiar with how the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 ensures that people with disabilities have the same access and opportunities as those without disabilities such as requiring ramps to buildings. However, the ADA also requires that websites comply with certain criteria to ensure that they are accessible to everyone as well.

Businesses that operate 20+ weeks per year with at least 15 employees or that fall under the category of public accommodations (restaurants, day cares, recreation facilities) are required to comply with website ADA guidelines.

Although your business may not be required to comply at this moment, it is always best practice for everyone to comply.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA is a technical reference which is most often used as the guideline to determine if a website is ADA compliant.
