2 people sent to hospital after report of dog attack in Conifer

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A dog attack that sent two people to the hospital was under investigation in Jefferson County Monday night.

Reports indicated this happened in the 31900 block of Black Widow Drive in the Conifer area.

JEFFERSON COUNTY - Two people were injured and taken to the hospital after what deputies are describing as a “dog attack” in Conifer Monday night.

The conditions of the two people who were injured were not released. Deputies did say one was a woman, and the other is believed to be a teenage boy.

We also don’t know what led up to the attack, or exactly where it happened.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- An adult woman was killed and her son transported to the hospital with unknown injuries following a dog attack in Conifer Monday evening.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's office says two suspected pit bulls were involved in the attack. It's not known what led up to the attack or if the animals belonged to the victims.

According to a neighbor, the son is a young adult, not a teen. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

The incident happened at about 7 p.m. when the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about the attack, said Dionne Waugh, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

The mother and son were attacked by two dogs they own, Waugh said. The sheriff’s office described both dogs as a terrier-pit bull mix.

Dog attack update 1/3: Deceased female victim is Susan Shawl, 60. Her son, Richard Shawl, 36, suffered non-life-threatening inj.
Dog attack update 2/3: The son has OK'd #JeffCo Animal Control to euthanize both dogs today
Dog attack update 3/3: Son was issued a warning notice in 2008 after neighbor reported dogs being loose & aggressive

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Shawl family for the loss of Susan. This was a very tragic case
