FYI - USFS is burning brush piles in Echo Hills area; you may see and smell smoke. EFR and USFS will be onsite all day and thru the night to monitor. The weather and amount of snow on the ground are working in our favor!

Over the last two days, Forest Service firefighters have burned 650 out of 2,000 piles in the Echo Hills area, and are planning to burn 500 more on Wednesday - that will put us more than halfway done with this project area.

Please don't be alarmed if you see flames or smell smoke, even into the evening and night. With current snow cover and weather conditions, there is no risk of ground fire spreading, and the longer and more completely the piles burn to ash, the less fuels are available for a wildfire. We realize it can be disconcerting to see the glow at night, but it is a normal part of pile burning. Forest Service firefighters will return to check on the piles early each morning.

Thanks to everyone for their understanding and support as we take these steps to protect lives and property from wildfire.
