The US Forest Service, Pike National Forest, South Platte Ranger District is planning on starting ignitions this morning burning piles on the Scraggy Springs Hand Piles Unit depending on conditions.

Please see attached map for exact location of unit.

Test fire should start around 1000 hrs.

Smoke maybe visible throughout the day in the area.

#PikesPeakRD crews will be burning slash piles again in Crowe Gulch today. Smoke will likely be visible on the N slope of Pikes Peak from the Pikes Peak Hwy and the Hwy 24 corridor from Woodland Park to Manitou Springs.

Over the last two days, Forest Service firefighters have burned 650 out of 2,000 piles in the Echo Hills area, and are planning to burn 500 more on Wednesday - that will put us more than halfway done with this project area.

Please don't be alarmed if you see flames or smell smoke, even into the evening and night. With current snow cover and weather conditions, there is no risk of ground fire spreading, and the longer and more completely the piles burn to ash, the less fuels are available for a wildfire. We realize it can be disconcerting to see the glow at night, but it is a normal part of pile burning. Forest Service firefighters will return to check on the piles early each morning.
