WMFR on scene of a growing wildfire on the hogback near Alameda & C470. Smoke & flames are visible. Calling in extra resources, no evacuations at this point.

ALERT: There is a wildfire in the area of Matthews Winters Park near Morrison. Jeffcom's 9-1-1 lines are inundated with callers who can see it. CREWS ARE ON SCENE. Please only call 9-1-1 for this fire if you are in danger of this fire.
WMFR going to request mutual aid from neighboring departments. Ordering air support if possible to fly.
Fire is slopping over on the east side toward Rooney Rd. 10 acres with heavy fuels at the top of the ridge, moving fast, no structures threatened at this time.
Requesting to confirm with Jeffco Park rangers to confirm no cars in parking lot at Dakota Ridge. Need to evacuate any hikers on Dakota Ridge if present.

The #HogbackFire is estimated at 10 acres & growing- pushed by extremely strong winds. It’s moving from near Alameda & C470 to the southeast. This video is from the west side of the hogback, on the side the fire originated. Wind pushed it upslope and over the top of the ridge.

We have also issued a pre-evacuation notification for the Red Rock Ranch neighborhood at C470. @LakewoodPDCO has issued a pre-evac notice for the Solterra neighborhood.

The fire is not out and pre-evacs have not been lifted yet, but while we had the chance, we wanted to thank our partners on scene.

The #hogbackfire tonight is at 40 acres and 0% contained. It was caused by an electrical line brought down by the wind. All pre-evacuations have been lifted. Crews worked aggressively throughout the afternoon to get a handle on the fast-moving fire.
Firefighters will be patrolling the hogback throughout the night. It’s expected to still be windy through midnight, which could cause some hot spots on the interior of the fire to flare up. Expect to see smoke, potentially into tomorrow and Sunday. Crews will be mopping up this weekend.
Highway 26 and Rooney Road will be closed Saturday.

Firefighters just now heading up to continue work on the #HogbackFire. As the day warms up, you may see small pockets of smoke within the perimeter of the fire. This is normal for a wildland fire. The smoke may look like the picture from yesterday, showing the two small “smokes.”

Morning briefing for the crews on the #HogbackFire this morning. Firefighters will be working on containment and doing mop up. It’s expected they will finish up work sometime tomorrow. West Metro getting help today from @efr_co, @BldrCOSheriff, @JeffcoOpenSpace.

If you see small flare ups like this one on the #hogbackfire overnight- this is normal fire behavior. It’s occurring well within the fire perimeter. This tree smoldered for several hours before igniting. Crews are patrolling the perimeter all night, keeping an eye on the fire.

A quick response & aggressive firefighting on the #hogbackfire kept the fire to approx. 40 acres & lifted pre-evacuation notices. West Metro had help from 22 fire, law enforcement, and other agencies. Thank you.
