Ron Paul says Haley Barbour’s decision to bow out of the Republican presidential field may be a sign that President Barack Obama is stronger than some believe.
Asked by Eliot Spitzer during CNN’s “In the Arena” Tuesday night why more GOPers aren't jumping at the chance to challenge Obama, Paul suggested the president's sound footing may be scaring them off. “They may be thinking they have to be cautious,” Paul said. “They maybe believe the president is stronger than some of the polls show.” Obama, Paul added, "is liked a lot."
Maybe if a candidate who has some name recognition and actually has a chance of winning decides to bow out, this may be a story. I wasn't even aware Barbour was running but Ron Paul has every reason to be happy the more of his competitors drop out. Paul would be foolish to say that Obama would be easy to beat even if it happened to be true. Why encourage more people to join the race? This is a non-story.

I do think Obama will be a tough opponent, he already has 40% of the vote locked in and won't face a significant political opponent in the primaries, the daunting task of raising 1/2 billion dollars to run a credible campaign is scaring off many good candidates.

Everyone knows you BUY the oval office.
Yep. Remember that Obama spent more in 2008 than Bush and Kerry did in 2004 - COMBINED.
And the next election he'll probably spend as much as ALL presidents combined. When the economy is still in the dumpster 4 years later, the sheep will still open their wallets for more of the same.

I have heard the one billion figure from both sides of the media. I don't know if it is an intimidation tactic by the White House but it seems to be working that way. And Barack is doing some massive fundraising. I expect him to raise just as much to try to keep the Senate and win back the House. Not much fun being POTUS with a GOP Congress.
