Will Obama 2012 Campaign Run On The “Gutsy Call” Of Doing The Obvious?
Mr. President, You Are The Leader of a Team. Act Like One.

If you click on the URL www.gutsycall.com, you will notice that - as of this writing - it redirects you to the Obama 2012 re-election campaign website. The URL was apparently purchased yesterday, although the purchaser seems to have covered its tracks. It would appear that this is being done with the intention of using “Gutsy Call” as a campaign slogan for Obama’s 2012 campaign, in an effort to capitalize on President Obama’s decision -after just 16 hours of deliberation - to order the operation that led to Osama bin Laden’s death.

If that’s the plan, it speaks badly of President Obama as a leader and of the political instincts of his campaign team.

The article had it right, it was a gutsy mission, not a gutsy call. The pres is in full time marketing mode now, with low approval ratings, and a failing economy, what did he personally have to lose? Seems like it was an easy "call". What was the risk if nothing was found? Pakistan is not Iran, Syria or Libya. Doesn't seem like it was all that hard to fly in and out of there undetected.

If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2

Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.

I disagree...It seems like their was enormous risk....bin Laden may not have been there, they didn't have real solid evidence he was....other people were killed before they even knew if bin Laden was there........the seals might have been detected and shot down by the pakistanis, we may have lost some American lives...that would not have played well in Peoria....missions like this carry enormous risk of failure and I am sure Obama knew that if this mission failed he would be vilified and could very well lose in 2012 because of that failure. Yet he chose to go ahead with this mission, knowing the risks, because it was the right thing to do. It WAS gutsy, and saying that it wasn't diminishes what the Seals accomplished.

Without the gutsy call, there is no gutsy mission.

Perhaps this is a matter of perception. It was a gutsy mission from the perspective of potential mortality. If you wish to place Obama's decision on the same level, no there is no comparison as he was never in danger of loosing his life. Hence to make the call did not take much guts as he was personally removed. If you talk about political suicide, the potential was there for political mortality. The rest of defense, about the risk of going into Pakistan illegally is not a first. Basically it does come down to political risk but that pales in comparison to the personal risk of those who man the front lines. This is where we part company in our perception. So what if your political career suffers because of a call you made. It is not detrimental to your health. Many people in all kinds of jobs from company CEO's to the man on an assembly line make "gutsy" calls that have repercussions in how they LIVE their lives afterwards, but they do NOT risk their LIFE as did the seals. It is a disservice to equate the the execution of a plan with the authorization of a plan.

But then again, do I care if Obama's 2012 presidential election bid suffers? I'm still waiting for him to impress me enough so I do care. And let's be honest, this call was not because it was the right thing to do as much as it was to make political hay. As with all politicians, he demonstrates this over and over again.

I in no way am equating the presidents risk with that faced by the seals....I'm not sure how you came up with that opinion from my post. Apples and oranges rockdoc. It IS gutsy to make the decision to send American Seals on such a risky mission, you would have to be an awfully cold blooded person not to agonize over such a decision....and I don't think Obama is cold hearted. So yes, I do think his making the call to do this mission based on intelligence only and no actual sighting of bin Laden was gutsy, it could have failed miserably and the political fallout of that was the least of his worries. That does not, however, equate to the expertise and ability of the Seals who actually risked their lives, their gutsy-ness, if you will, is what makes them so good, it's what they do.

I'm thinking the seals would like to think that the Commander-in-Chief does not send them off on a risky mission without agonizing over it and weighing all the pros and cons. Deciding that it was worth the risk to the lives of these Seals, some of the best soldiers America has to offer is gutsy to me, maybe not to anyone else (except perhaps to other presidents who have had to make similar decisions).
