The news in Obama’s speech

Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu today demanded the United States negotiate agreeable peace terms with Indian Tribes, based on boundaries recognized in 1812, before the imperial power swept aggressively westward and displaced indigenous peoples in violation of international law.

Maybe the bigger question is what does it mean to us if the whole freaking desert over there blows up and we find ourselves obliged to defend Israel against the whole Arab world?

One of these days you and others like you will wake up to the fact that that is exactly the position we are in now, so why alienate the only ally we have over there. Jihad is that war and it is going on right now. When it arrives here again, maybe you will realize it this time.

Those people are just not worth protecting right AV? Maybe WWII was just a big waste of time and we should have just let them all cook. One of the things I've always loved about our country is that we have always (for the most part) stood up for our friends with our blood and treasure.

Tell me this AV, why did we help to free the Jews in the first place? Was it worth it?

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

You picked the wrong gal to try to paint as an anti-semite. Half of my family tree is Jewish. I'm not Jewish myself, but not even every Jew supports the Israeli government or its actions. The Jewish people have my utmost respect not only through family loyalty but because they are a fine people. However, I think the Israeli government has been wrong-headed and belligerent too many times to count. You would think that people who had been persecuted for centuries would understand why it's wrong to persecute the Palestinians.

And as for the history of "helping our friends", do you know that part of the reason Israel was created was that our country (among others) didn't want to accept a lot of refugee Jews after WWII? So we stuck them out there where they weren't wanted, displacing people who had held the land for centuries, and then we're surprised when it causes friction? We're only reaping what we've sown, and unfortunately it is going to be the everyday Jewish families in Israel who suffer in the end for our playing God after WWII.

I don't know what can be done about it now, and no, I wouldn't condone just abandoning them to their fate in the hostile middle east, but it ought to serve as a stern warning of the "karma" you pick up when you meddle in such a way in a region you don't really understand.

I am looking forward to the day when diplomacy actually works in that part of the world, so far it's like peeing into the wind.

You do realize that we had the world's worst ambassador to Iraq at the time. She told Saddam:

But we have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait. I was in the American Embassy in Kuwait during the late '60s. The instruction we had during this period was that we should express no opinion on this issue and that the issue is not associated with America. James Baker has directed our official spokesmen to emphasize this instruction. We hope you can solve this problem using any suitable methods via Klibi (Chedli Klibi, Secretary General of the Arab League) or via President Mubarak. All that we hope is that these issues are solved quickly.

He asked permission because they were using directional drilling into his oil reserves.

So just to be clear, we should have let Saddam invade Kuwait? Not trying to be confrontational, you just didn't give me your opinion on the issue.

No, we should have had an ambassador smart enough not to give Saddam permission. The whole damned mess would have been avoided.

It is apparent that it is the other half of your family.

Where did you get the idea that WE stuck them out there? You do realize that Israel is where Jerusalem is don't you? Do you realize that the Jews, Muslims, and Christians look at Jerusalem as being the Holy city and the center of their religion? Could you possibly entertain the fact that the Jewish people wanted to be in that part of the world?

I understand that in your la la land that you have all the answers but it isn't reality. Maybe you should have read the Bible, either one of them, and you could be giving an opinion on something you actually know about.

BTW FYI there were three countries that made the decision and gave the land to the Jewish people.

When Israel gives us the aid and protection that we give them which keeps them on the map, then the US could listen to him on that. Until then, he should STFU. I swear Israel is the most ungrateful nation for what they have been given.
