Tonight's Republican debate.

OK, I was thoroughly impressed with the Republican Debate tonight. I think we have a very strong field with some very intelligent candidates that will blow Obama away in any debate. He has no defense for any of his actions and he has no accomplishments and a long list of failures that he will be defending. I think Obama is a one term President.

Americans realize that 4 years is enough of a Democratic President just like Carter was. And had Ross Perot not ran as a third party, Clinton would probably never won a first term let alone the second. America always has to throw a token Democratic President in every 8-12 years becuase they have a short memory of how bad they screwed it up the last time.

But Romney, Bachman, and Pawlenty all impressed me tonight. Cain was OK. Paul was great but I just don't think he can win the nomination. He is not taken serious enough by most. And Newt needs to just drop out. Santorum was OK, but he couldn't even win in his own state his last election. I like a Romney / Bachman or Romney / Thune ticket. Romney / Cain?

I know a lot aren't real fans of Romney but he is a very smart business man and a great speaker. He is very smart and will destroy Obama in debates. And he explained his stance on the healthcare in his state and said he will fight to repeat Obamacare immediately. Although not perfect by any means, I think he is our strongest candidate.

And Bachman really impressed me tonight. I was on the fence with her but she is smart as a whip and has some great ideas and has been involved in a lot more with our economy, the heathcare fiasco and our foreign policies than I realized.

Were we watching the same debate? What I mostly saw was candidates debating against Obama, not each other. Hardly a fair fight when the candidate you are debating against isn't even in the room. I did hear some good stuff....a little from each candidate, If I could take those good things from each and roll them into one candidate you might have a winner. But everyone of the candidates seemed to shoot themselves in the foot on some single issue...Cain on the muslims in his cabinet, several of them really flubbed the separation of church and state issue......I was amused on the states rights issue....all argued passionately about states rights until gay marriage came up and suddenly they were for the feds telling the states what to do. Ron Paul has the best ideas on foreign policy....just get us the hell out of everywhere.....none of them gave much of an answer on immigration except Romney......kinda funny that no one wanted to touch the question...."if the 5 yr old son of illegal immigrants shows up in the emergency room, should we treat him"?

Michelle Bachman certainly is more media savvy than Sarah Palin and presents herself better, but her role tonight seemed more cheerleader than anything else. She will probably get better at it as time goes by, but her Tea Party allegiance I think will hurt her in the end. She is rabidly to the far right and mainstream America rarely votes for the extremes of either political leaning.

There was a lot more in the debate....but little of it served to distinguish between the candidates. I get it that they hate Obama....but I need more than that to sort them all out.

Come on, the Reps can do better than that!

http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/06 ... et-whopper

As a former business executive and past governor, he can boast experience concerning economic activity and government policy-making. In fact, of all the GOP candidates in the field, Romney has the most standing to challenge Obama's economic actions (even if the company he led often brokered deals that resulted in job losses).

With his announcement speech, though, Romney is signaling that he's not prepared to have an adult conversation that transcends the scoring of political points. Romney's paramount responsibility as a presidential wannabe is to play to (or pander to) Republican primary voters. In the past, he has demonstrated how far he's willing to go in that regard by trading in his moderate/liberal positions on abortion, gay rights, and gun control for the traditional GOP stances on these matters. Issuing over-the-top assertions about the economy is not a stretch for him.

Bill Adair, editor of PolitiFact, recently told Minnesota Public Radio that he has never researched a Bachmann quote and found it to be true (the only major politician for which that's the case).

Here's an incomplete guide to Bachmann's greatest hits:

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

Seriously?!

Bachmann, then a state senator, explains why she doesn't agree with the theory of evolution: "Where do we say that a cell became a blade of grass, which became a starfish, which became a cat, which became a donkey, which became a human being? There’s a real lack of evidence from change from actual species to a different type of species. That's where it's difficult to prove." Don't even get her started on how a bill becomes a law.

So basically she doesn't agree b/c she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about - got it.

On Laura Ingram's radio show last week, Bachmann said: "To think that government has to go out and buy my breast pump ... You want to talk about nanny state, I think we just got a new definition."

Bachmann's claim that the government is buying breast pumps is nonsense. The IRS simply announced it would allow people to deduct breast-feeding expenses from their taxes. And since breast pumps can be costly (I found them online in the range of $75 to $350), the tax break would be a relief to many working mothers. But for Bachmann and her ilk, any government intervention to support healthier options is fodder for harsh criticism.

Sensational rhetoric without any substance, just what I want in my presidential candidate.

And she can't seem to tell the truth if her life depends on it - you're right, she makes a great politician! :Whatever:

SC....as long as her lies feed into the conservative/tea party line they are going to love her. They don't want truth, they want her to validate their own prejudices and beliefs and tell them what they want to hear. I expect exaggeration, and wild promises from politicians, but would hope to keep the outright lies at a minimum.

Good Ol Boys will never let Bachmann or Palin win. They will never let the Tea Party that far into their doors. They are just using them to whip up the rabble and once they are done with them, they will be gone. The only way the Tea Party has a chance of taking over is by becoming the third party, but the chance of them getting that far is likened to those of the ice cube in hell.

I believe you are giving too much credit to good ol boys and too little to the rabble.

clinton (or commie, if you perfer) news network, S.O.S. Bias, snotty, elitist, why the Republicans, EVER agreed to this I will NEVER know.
IMO, we need to go back to The League of Women Voters moderators…AND A REAL DEBATE, NOT mini election speeches in 30 second sound bites…
I've eliminated 3 of them, (2 I REALLY DON'T LIKE, and will not vote for even if it comes down to the lesser of 2 evils), but things could change it's early. TOO EARLY!

IMO, I will NOT let the Republican Party, nor the MSM, push my vote to somebody I don't like... I Will NOT be FOOLED AGAIN! And NO, I will NOT vote for oblama.

Couldn't be bothered to watch it. I prefer checking out their voting record to lies & zingers on stage.
