25 Horribly Sexist Vintage Ads

Same here...but then my brother-in-law, who was officiating the ceremony, got to this part where he was supposed to say "Throw around your wife your love, comfort, and protection..." except that he paused in the wrong spot - "Throw around your wife..."

So I don't have to obey, but apparently I can be thrown around (he's been too chicken to try cuz I said nothing about not throwing him back!)

Those ads are all messed up. There is something to be said for raising awareness (politically correct has become a bad term, b/c it gets carried too far) about inequality, but there's still more to be done. The ads today are just much more subtle about it, but the images of objectified, sexified, skinnified women the same kind of damage.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

Without objectified, sexified, skinnified, women in ads, men wouldn't pay any attention to them at all.

Bulls***. That's a cheap cop-out. If it's for a cool car, beer, or a sweet new video game, there's absolutely no need for a woman to be present in the ad, and oftentimes isn't.

Considering that ads are all about getting you to buy something that you probably don't need anyway, you shouldn't be paying any attention to them at all in the first place!

I'm sorry, I don't recall any of the commercials to which you refer, obviously zoned out during them.

And then there were the ads trying to take advantage of feminist women.
Virginia Slims, you have come a long way baby and now can smoke cancer causing cigarettes too!
