I think the sexual dalliances are more due to politicians having big egos and unable to keep themselves in check.
Slightly off-topic: The Week last week reviewed a book that proposed that some of the best political leaders had severe mental issues, Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill showed signs of depression, and others seem to be manic depressives.
Then again, even the bad politicians might have been mental cases, like Nixon's paranoid delusions.
