The United States Navy is bigger than the world's next 17 largest navies combined.

I also would like to see a link to that also.

I should have said the next 13 largest navies combined. (11 of the next 13 are out allies)

It's in the second sentence of the link you provided.

Also, I saw this in a Reddit discussion on the subject:

World's largest airforce: US Air Force

World's second largest airforce: US Navy

The world will thank us when we stop the extraterrestrials from stealing our sea water.

I'm even wondering about the future of aircraft carriers. Will they go the way of battleships?

With new stealth unmanned drones with antiship missles, I wonder if carriers can be protected? Plus I think a lot of future aircraft will be unmanned.

Could be. The threat right now are anti ship ballistic missiles that China is developing.

Wayne the second sentence says tonnage wise we are the largest, ship wise we are not. Both Russia and China have us beat. Granted most of our ships are deployable. That is because our maintenance program is unmatched by the other Navies. Aircraft wise we are quite big. I believe the number is around 3500 aircraft.

As for the future of the battlegroups with the carrier as the hub, I believe the carrier battlegroup will evolve as the needs arise. The unmanned drones will be launched from the carriers, along with the other items that the battlegroup brings to the theater of operation.
