I was harassed and pulled by an unmarked Jeffco cop for flashing my headlights warning oncoming traffic of a speed trap. Of course his excuse was I did not know if you needed help - yeah right... after the "chase" up 285. I went down and met with Sheriff Mink in person because I did not trust that the "filing a complaint" process would ever let him know what happened. I also filed a formal complaint. I'll write the details later, but the cop tried to run me off the road. It is within our rights to notify other motorists of speed-traps. It is NOT against the law. more later
the court thing? Jeffco has changed the rules on us and we do NOT get to take tickets to court any longer (cost saving excuse). My husband met with the DA over issues of not getting due process and won. you know when you get a ticket, you have been arrested and we are all guaranteed due process if arrested. It's all a ruse to make money, nothing more.
Seems like a pretty easy fix, just make a law. Some of the most dangerous people in society are speeders. There are all kinds of laws stating what you can and cannot say.
Seems that there is an air of "we should be able to speed" or at least we should be able to warn speeders that they may be caught.
I am curious of those commenting would mention some other crimes where they would and some where they would not warn the criminals that they may be caught. OK, speeding may be civil, I don't know, but either way you have wronged others by definition of law.
For example is it as acceptable to warn a rapist that they might be caught (I think most would assume worse than a speeder), someone who chucks a soda bottle out the window (I think most would assume speeding is worse, but see below), a mother who strong arms a 6 year old who screams for 15 minutes while checking out at the grocery (depends on who hard she strongarms him), how about someone smoking a joint on their own porch (most would agree speeders are worse, at least I think).
I guess the example of the soda bottle stands out now that I have typed it. I could picture the average Coloradan flashing their lights to warn a potentially dangerous speeder to slow down and not be caught, knowing full well that there is a serous danger associated with speeders...yet I could picture that same average Coloradan calling the police after the person in front of them throws one soda bottle into the National Forest, knowing full well that this has so much less potential to do serious harm than the speeder. What do you think? Could you picture yourself warning a speeder of a trap, but getting pissed as a polluter doing far less potential harm. Keep in mind that there are about 44,000 deaths on the roads each year...and I don't have the number of deaths associated with petty littering. Petty littering is not dumping nuclear waste, in case anyone was going to go in that direction.
To be clear, if something is not yet illegal, there should be no ticket or interruption of freedom or travel. I am asking more about the morals, not the law as the two are only distantly related via adoption.
