I would imagine they can set it up so if you earn less than a certain dollar amount at one home, they aren't responsible for you. $1000 per month?

So the high school student who watches the kids every day after school would be covered, but not the teen who babysits a couple Saturday nights in a month.

BTW, how much are babysitters costing these days?

I usually pay $10 or $15/hour, but I have high standards - my babysitters are almost always people I know and trust, who have been in positions of authority with my kids either at daycare, school, or Taekwondo, and/or have years of early childhood education training (one has even gotten certified to be a director of a learning/daycare center), stay up-to-date on safety training, and who I know I can count on in an emergency to make smart, level-headed decisions. But the high school girls in my neighborhood are trying to charge that much too (they get called only in an emergency need situation, and only after I've asked my neighbors or friends if they can take the kids temporarily).

Sometimes, it really sucks not having family in town...

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

I believe that 1099's are not required for less that $400 per year.

Not sure but most cleaning services require insurance. Not sure if it is just liability or if it includes accident.
