GOP in Giffords’ district holds raffle for Glock

The Republican Party in Arizona's Pima County, which is represented by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), is in the midst of a fundraising raffle, $10 per entry.

The prize: the same model of gun that delivered a near-fatal blast to the Democratic lawmaker's skull outside a Tucson grocery store in January.

Tucson is in Pima County.

The winner of the gun will also receive a case, three 12-round magazines and grips for the firearm.

When pressed on whether the group was worried the raffle might be insensitive,
C.J. Karamargin, told the paper that Giffords, herself, owned a Glock and regarded gun ownership as a constitutional right.

Wow, you admit some Democrats are gun owners and support the Right to Bear Arms. Cool.

From the article:

Brian Miller, the immediate past chair of the Pima County GOP, told Talking Points Memo that while he has raffled off guns as fundraisers before, to do so now is insensitive and inappropriate.

"There's a woman who has a bullet in the brain and who everybody is wishing a full recovery," Miller said. "I don't think that raffling off a firearm right now is probably the right way to go."

Yes, I think someone is trying to push some buttons, but the reason i posted the comment is to show Giffords and her office have it under control and didn't run off crying foul.

My guess is - Glock (or a local FFL) donated it to the GOP.

My opinion - very crappy idea. (not questionable legality --- just a lousy, tacky idea)

Besides being a crappy idea --- why raffle off a piece of junk plastic, when you can enjoy
solid, heavy metal (Beretta and Colt fan)?

(this post is sponsored by Beretta - maker of the 92FS, avaiable at an FFL near you)

Wayne, a Glock 23 is not an updated model of the Glock 19 as stated in the article by another journalistic pinhead. The Glock 19 is a mid-sized 9x19 and the Glock 23 is a mid-sized 40 S&W. Also, you seem fascinated by the case, 3 mags and grips, which is standard on all generation 4 Glocks. So, like the "Pitbull bites child" vs "Dog bites child" just more pinhead journalistic fluff.

The silent majority will be silent no more.

+1.

While the raffle isn't very tasteful, it isn't the gun that shot Gabby G.

Raffling a Glock in this particular district is ALMOST as insensitive as building a mosque near the hallowed grounds of the World Trade Center. Wily is right, you really CAN'T make this stuff up. Whether it's legal or not is irrelevant really....it's still terribly distasteful.

I wonder if those raffling the Glock are getting social assistance to run the raffle and have the tacit approval of national state and local government?
