Your union negotiates with insurance companies to get you your coverage, premiums etc. It is part of your dues. I was in the union for 12 years.
We were always re-negotiating every few years and we always were told "we took a beating" blah blah, but the BA's and the Pres always drove new lincolns, and such.
My understanding is the company picks the insurance company(s) for their benefits, the union negotiates how much of that benefit the company pays and how much the employee pays.
Blaming the insurance company is popular, but no one considers she was diagnosed too late? If she would have gone in earlier, this may not have happened. Or if she would have not had the fast acting version?
Cancer reacts in different ways to different people.
And I am not absolving the insurance company, my wife has to fight with her insurance/prescription company every month to get her MS medicine ordered, but there may be a lot more factors in her death than just a slow insurance company.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
The only union in the US that was, maybe still is a strong union for their members is the Electrical Union.
My Dad was in it for many years and has a great insurance policy.
We had poop. And I saw alot of good people die because of our crappy union bosses.
Wait till the government is making those decisions- two months is gonna be a dream.
If she and her doctor knew the cancer was spreading, the doctor should have treated her regardless- and if her doctor would not do it then she should have found one who would treat it- blaming this on the insurance company is a cop out!
Blaming this on anyone BUT the insurance company is the cop out.......you just can't believe one of your precious companies might not have the best interests of their customer in mind when they make decisions. We pay insurance premiums on the expectation that they will be there when we need them........if they aren't, they have failed to live up to their contract. This is hardly an isolated incident....and Norma is not the first to die waiting on an insurance company to decide if they will cover life saving treatments.
Sorta reminds me of the Denver woman whose boy with asthma died after Medicaid delayed getting her prescription drugs for his treatment. Oh wait, that is the Government insurance program. Oops!

Just WOW......do you
work for an insurance (health)company.......When there are congressional hearings on this subject and individuals who "played God" testified that EXACT process was what they were payed to perform...DENYING claims, delaying claims and otherwise allowing the patient
to die.....you have NO credibility to back your post.....JMO

apparently know little to nothing about insurances companies.......THIS tactic is wide-spread and has been going on for YEARS......
(read decades)......in fact, many years ago it was brought before a congressional hearing and a claims supervisor/reviewer testified
under oath that she was instrumental in denying similar claims.....it was her mission (dictated by the company) to DELAY judgements
so that time would elapse and the outcome would be DEATH....apparently NOTHING has really changed since those hearings.....JMO
Do you have a link showing how this was a "widespread" tactic. And if it was widespread, why weren't all these "widespread" cases reported to the state insurance commissions which are supposed to investigate these things? And if they are investigated and wrong was done, where are the fines and penalties?
If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2
Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.

YOU KNOW......I never provide links.....do your OWN research.....might want to
start with those congressional hearings Iwas speaking of....and move forward from there.....OMG....how many bankers, mortgage brokers/companies and financial advisors have been fined?jailed? NONE.....there is your answer....the economy is screwed and the
individuals that created the mess are NOT being held to the fire....WHY do you think the insurance industry is ANY different? DO YOU
OWN RESEARCH.
