State Departments buys $ 70,000 worth of Obama books

The U.S. Department of State forked over $70,000 to buy Obama’s best-selling book “Dreams From My Father,” The Washington Times reported Tuesday, noting that if Obama earned 10 percent of the purchase, he pocketed several thousand dollars.
Although the 1995 book is a bestseller that sold briskly when Obama’s popularity grew during his run for president, the department’s decision to buy copies is catching the eye of government spending watchdogs.
“It’s inappropriate for U.S. taxpayer dollars to be spent on this,” Leslie Paige, the spokesman for Citizens Agaisnt Governtment Waste, told the paper. “This sounds like propaganda.”
The report points out that there’s no indication that the White House was alerted about the purchase, and a spokesman from the State Department said book purchases are common and often used “to engage key audiences in discussions of foreign policy.”

Obama has earned about $7.7 million in royalties from the two books he wrote before he became president.

Since royalties are 10 percent of sales, I doubt he really needs $7,000 in royalties from the additional book sales.

Missing the point as usual CV, this is a conflict of interest at a minimum and misuse of his position. Let Odumbo buy these books from personal funds, not our tax dollars.

Maybe the embassies should buy and distribute Harry Potter books instead.

If any President did this or it happened during their term, it should be paid for by that President, is that clear enough for you?

What if they pass out books written by Thomas Jefferson or George Washington?

Why does the state dept need 70000 books. I could see maybe a 1000 but 70000 is out of wack of the norm. If it was a group of different books that made up the 70000 then maybe, but the perception is it give a look of "conflict of interest"
