With Republicans in Congress seemingly unwilling to pass President Barack Obama’s jobs bill, the White House announced Friday that the president is taking steps on his own to help businesses create jobs and strengthen their global competitiveness.
The White House said Obama issued two Presidential Memoranda as part of a series of executive actions to put Americans back to work and strengthen the economy.
“With too many families struggling and too many businesses fighting to keep their doors open, we can’t wait for Congress to take action,” Obama said.
He added, “Today, I am directing my Administration to take two important steps to help American businesses create new products, compete in a global economy, and create jobs here at home.”
“With too many families struggling and too many businesses fighting to keep their doors open, AND the election only one year away...... we can’t wait for Congress to take action,”
He could do any number of things by presidential order- like the one requiring contractors to sign union-only project labor agreements for federal jobs-- this one presidential order locks out 90% of american workers from working on federaol jobs.
There are dozens of actions like this that are preventing jobs from being created.
That's an appropriate story for Halloween - scary stuff! Running the gov't. by executive fiat. What's next? Executive order to take in a homeless person if you have an extra room? Have a percentage of our wages withheld for a "community fund" pot?
Whenever a vacuum is created someone will fill it. Congress needs to get their act together and work on solutions, or yes, the president will do it on his own. The no compromise attitude of both Democrats and Republicans in congress is untenable. And it is mere weeks before the so called "super committee" is supposed to agree on deficit reduction measures.....yeah, like that is ever going to happen.
