Is Libya an Islamic State?

She drove, and was not required to cover - for three years.

She had lots of female friends who told her that Sharia law protected them.
(in general, she agreed).

Again - there's different versions of Sharia.
(Americans tend to assume there's one version -- patently wrong)

The version we lived under was relatively liberal.

Yup ---- Abu D
arguably one of the wealthiest places in the world.......

(Garfield found it before I did)

Abu Dhabi is notably more conservative than Dubai (vegas of the Muddle East).

Still - it's nothing like Saudi.

Abu Dhabi is kept very liberal to accomodate Western business and families working there. Your wife will probably tell you that it was not advised for her to wander outside Abu Dhabi.

Wandering outside is fine - she did it all the time. Sure - it's wise to be accompanied --- but I'd say the same thing about downtown Denver.

We also went to Oman and Egypt as a family. I went a dozen other places for my work. I've seen dozens of variations of Sharia - and most of the varieties don't really bother me. In fact - I have a good (Christian) friend - who runs Sharia banking for one of the biggest banks in the city (he's Coptic).

"Sharia" tends to be one of the big buzz words of (mostly Christian) alarmists. Libya belongs to Libyans --- let them figure out their destiny. I'm certain it will be a better destiny than anything Qaddafi envisioned.

Gee, since Libya is inhabited by Muslims, ya think it might be an "Islamist" nation? It's THEIR COUNTRY... Are we supposed to try to cram a Jeffersonian pseudo-Christian form of government down their throats?

I think we should send that nutjob preacher over there who likes to burn Korans... Let's let him be the Christian/Conservative ambassador... (I wonder how long he would last?... Anybody like to start a pool?... We could measure it in milliseconds....)

I would like to see the U.S. enter into a long period of laissez-faire. Our active participation in the overthrow of Qaddafi was meddling to the extreme.
