House Minority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland is leading a group of Democrats in opposition to voter-ID laws that require individuals to present photo identification at the polls.
The Democratic lawmakers wrote a letter to every state’s Secretary of State urging them to oppose laws that they argue make it more difficult for Americans to register and vote.
“Whether it is an elderly woman unable to locate her birth certificate for purposes of establishing her U.S. citizenship on election day or a college student whose school-issued identification is not among the IDs deemed acceptable for voting or a disabled veteran whose local polling place has not yet been made accessible, public officials on all levels of government should be striving to facilitate their right to vote, not make it more difficult,” says the letter.
Yes, one can muster a million reasons to justify one's goal. Somehow I doubt this movement has altruistic motive. No ID, no problem. Illegal immigrant? No problem. To young to vote? No problem. Step right up and vote. We will guide you in the process. For every one of those justifications cited, there is a rational decision making process available. Buried in this BS is the fundamental issue of good candidates. Give the car a quick wash an polish so the gullible customer won't look beyond the shiny exterior and discover a faulty engine. This is a political wash and wax job.
I really don't think an illegal immigrant could pass themselves off as an American at the voting booth.. you need to speak and understand English pretty fluently... and if you're not listed on the rolls, how do you get around that that and deal with it, if you can't speak English? If it were so easy, people would be voting twice under various names all over the place.
As usual, a "solution looking for a problem" where the number of documented cases represents something on the order of .00037% of the vote. But it's a great outrage-of-the-day.

As Matt Mayer vividly describes in a new Heritage Web Memo, the Obama administration is implementing a de facto amnesty that will allow the vast majority of illegal aliens to remain in the United States without being disturbed by the Department of Homeland Security or any attempts to deport them. We can now add one more general amnesty that the administration is apparently extending – no prosecution of illegal voting by noncitizens and a green light to becoming a citizen even if you have violated federal law.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a citizenship verification at the time that you register to vote, right? So, if you've been vetted as a citizen, why the need to check again on voting day?
It's a good thing the election wasn't this year for my mom.....she was registered in FL, then moved to Ohio. She does not have a drivers licence anymore and applied for an ID card in Ohio, which so far has not arrived......even though she showed up, paid her money and had her picture taken. yeah, they really are facilitating this whole ID card thing. Oh, all this after 2 trips to get the card because the first time they told her she didn't have the proper documentation, even though she had brought what was listed in the paper to get an ID. Sheesh, she is 93 years old and didn't need this aggravation.
oh....after calling the office, she was told she should have gotten her card while she was there, someone screwed up, now she needs to go back and get it.
