A couple of Press releases.

DPD expresses regret over text messages re Occupy Denver

Occupy Denver car-to-car text system

Unfortunately, a few communications between individual officers through a car-to-car text system have not met the standard of professionalism expected by the Denver Police Department and the citizens of Denver in regards to the Occupy Denver protests. We recognize this and have already taken steps to address the behavior and to remind all officers of our expectations. The Denver Police Department regrets the tenor and tone of some of these texts.

In a desire to be transparent to the people we serve, all of the relevant text messages regarding Occupy Denver are available to Download.

It is important to note that while not a defense for inappropriate behavior, many Denver Police Officers have now endured months of having to leave their families to come into work early, giving up their days off, and silently tolerating hours of taunting and abusive actions by some protestors.

It is common for employees in any line of work to vent their frustrations to co-workers. But more important, is the fact that the actions of the Denver Police Department and its Officers have reflected the City’s commitment to protect free speech. These are the words of a very few officers over a thirteen week period.

Notwithstanding these text messages, the Denver Police Department continues to respect and will defend the Constitutional right to peacefully protest.

Lieutenant Murray will be available for interviews at 2:30 PM at Denver Police HQ.

Lieutenant Mathew Murray

My two favorite quotes:
" I say we just baton the people who start to incite everyone."

"This occupy sh*t has got out of hand because this liberal administration has allowed them to."

Yes, because this country wasn't born from protest and non-violent protests aren't Constitutionally guaranteed or nuthin'...

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

And that's only a two week slice of rape, sex, violence and breaking the law. Consider the amount of lawlessness that these occupy camps have bred over the country, If I were the Denver police I wouldn't be apologizing for anything... I would have just called them scum.

I mean didn't a Christian guy from the Army blow up a building in Oklahoma a few years back, didn't a Republican play with some guy in a boys bathroom in Idaho a couple years back and another drive this country into turmoil and a police state, didn't some Mom just have a standoff and kill some folks in a welfare office in TX.

But I also know a Christian guy that took in a homeless guy and helped get him back on his feet and Republican that voted down a new hurtful regulation (don't worry it was not in Park County) and I watched a Mom give her kid a big hug just the other day.

It's so hard to know how to stereotype these groups based on the actions of few. How do you do it so well?

But back to reality. Isn't 100 (if not 100000) examples of protesters getting a little out of hand overshadowed by one authority figure violating the public trust - like beating up one veteran, or pepper spraying even one peaceful protester - once this happens, has not society actually broken down more than when a few people protest. This is the best way to loose authority and hurt the group you represent - the police - which already are more disliked than any time I can remember in life. I guess we have 3 things to thank for this - the drug war, the militarization based on the terror war and the people war where police don't seem to care if the public respects them...and even if the officers do, the policies ask them to disrespect and it seems that many comply....shall I make a list of links or never mind, just go to any major news outlet...or minor one...or any small town and ask anyone under 30 years or 30k in annual income, they will tell you why police are thought of as thugs, even if only some are.

Think there is more rape, sex (I only included this because you did, FYI sex is not bad like rape and hitting, at least not for me), violence and breaking the law in prisons and detention camps in the US or OWS camps, just curious since this seems to be the measuring stick? Keep in mind that the prisons are 100% under cop control.

So in essence what you are stating is our society is f'd and I agree? Now what? More importantly are we the PUBLIC really at fault?

Talk about thin skinned.

Imagine what Mayor Daley would have done to the OWS people, would have been a lot worse that some texts.

This is the part that interests me.

They are draining resources for real emergencies in Denver. You made your point now get creative to get your point across without costing the city even more money. This money could go to other things. We already have to deal with terrorist issues and now this. I am not condoning what the police officers did, but I am upset with OWS movement for this reason.

Sheesh the texts weren't meant to be made public - I think it was just some officers' means of blowing off steam and haven't we all made similar comments about annoying customers or even coworkers?
