Actually, TM, when the gubment finds out that all those squirrels put away their nuts and others did not, they will tax you for half of it to give to the 99%ers!

So, I just got back on and realized I forgot to add the link. My apologies. This will give you better information.

36 five gallon buckets? That would take up a couple pallets of space.

I agree. There is no way I'm going to eat survival food unless I have a good cooking sauce. And a nice red wine.

It's always possible to rub sticks together to obtain a cooking source.

Here you go... How much water would you need and how long would this last? About $10,000

They make a heat source...it is in MREs that are used by the military. Add water to it and put the pouch of food in the bag holding the heat source, set it against a rock (the instructions on the bag...) and let it sit for several minutes.

You can also activate these by putting them into a full 2-liter soda bottle...then shake it up and watch it explode. Oh, that doesn't have anything to do with emergency food stores...sorry...got excited and carried away.

The product descrition says:

2,000 calories a day for 1080 days

I can think of a lot cheaper ways to feed myself for that length of time. And I'd be seriously concerned about eating nothing but chemically processed stuff, which is what that sounds like. If you follow LDS guidelines for food storage, you can put together a year's supply for less than $1,000 that includes a good variety of nutritious foods.

Most here will cringe at the thought of this, but in all seriousness, rodent meat really isn't that bad at all. Squirrel infact is very high in protien and tastes REALLY good. Rat tends to be a bit more fatty and usually takes a few of them to make a decent meal for one person, but if you're canning, drying, or even salt preserving them you can gather quite a few to make one hell of a feast. (Trout preserves particularly well too, for those fellow fishing fans on here. Just saying...)

Proper shopping methods have set us in a decent position with stored goods at the house. Its amazing how much money you can save a year by planning way ahead and not having to nickel and dime for odds and ends knowing you already have them in stock.

There you have it. Since you don't look forward to eating this stuff, just think how long it would last you. Then when a real emergency arises it's there for your consumption. LOL
