I'm sure that navycpo would much rather have his son here at home, rather than in Afghanistan, but a phone call is the best gift for now. I'm glad he's still safe and well, and continue to hope for it to remain that way. For some, getting to still talk to, and spend time with, loved ones, is a better gift than any material item that can ever be received. I'm thankful that my parents flew out to visit me and my family for Christmas, more so than the gifts that they gave me, but I don't begrudge you what you got either VL - I'm happy that you're happy!
Well wishes to all!

A new shirt and $100 cash, on top of the $900 they spent flying out here and the Christmas Eve dinner that they treated us to (it's a family tradition to go to a Japanese grill on Christmas Eve ever since I was little. We'd drive down to downtown Cinti to join my Dad after his half day of work, walk around looking at the lights and the huge train display at Cincinnati Gas & Electric [think A Christmas Story size display], then go to Benihana's for the only time all year as a special treat). Benihana's has fallen off in quality of food, plus the closest one is 30-40 minutes from home, so now we go to Hanabi Grill on Wadsworth south of Hampden (just don't get the sushi there, the rest is great!).
They go hog wild spoiling my kids (their only grandkids), which is preferable for me. I had a great Christmas relaxing, playing games, and eating yummy food! What did you get Lil Precious this year?

When I was a very small child we'd open presents then go to church. Going to church ruined Christmas every year but my mom insisted we go, there was no getting out of it- but when I was around 9 or 10 we talked her into midnight mass on Christmas Eve. We did that for about 10 years, it became a tradition and it was always great to get all that crap outta the way the night before..
If you are working today, I hope you had a good weekend and were able to spend some quality time with your family over the holiday weekend. If by chance you own your own business and worked today, congrats on making it in this tough economy and I hope you do well in the new year. If you had others work for your business today, I hope that you extended appreciation towards them and that they are happy to be working for you.
The family usually goes to Mexico for Christmas, Cancun this year. Got a Kindle Fire from the wife. Just in time. Because I broke my normal Kindle walking on the beach, tweaked the screen.
Hope you all had a good Christmas. And if you has to work today, I hope it was a good shift, and if you were in emergency services, I hope you had a very boring Boxing Day with very few calls requiring your services.
