the real 1 percent

"When Representative Ed Pastor was first elected to Congress two decades ago, he was comfortably ensconced in the middle class. Mr. Pastor, a Democrat from Arizona, held $100,000 or so in savings accounts in the mid-1990s and had a retirement pension, but like many Americans, he also owed the banks nearly as much in loans.

Today, Mr. Pastor, a miner’s son and a former high school teacher, is a member of a not-so-exclusive club: Capitol Hill millionaires. That group has grown in recent years to include nearly half of all members of Congress — 250 in all — and the wealth gap between lawmakers and their constituents appears to be growing quickly, even as Congress debates unemployment benefits, possible cuts in food stamps and a “millionaire’s tax.”

No surprise there......people used to run for office to serve their country, now they run to serve themselves. I find it both disgusting and maddening that those in office are rewarded with so much for doing so little.

Who said the 1% were all Republicans in the first place? I don't remember seeing that. Perhaps someone can post a link that shows that... In the meantime, the 1%, whoever they are, are serving themselves at the expense of the 99%, and it's disgusting no matter who that is. At least a few of the 1% with a conscience are saying, "You're right... We should pay more." (Interesting how virtually none of THOSE are Republicans.]

That's a really good question... "Who said the 1% were all Republicans in the first place?" Hmmm... it wasn't said anywhere above on this thread, I read the WHOLE article and it was never mentioned there... did you make that up so you could get a partisan slap in at the Republicans? Of course you did... you're pulling crap out of your ass again. Considering how much you do this... you must have one gigantic smelly butt.

LIberals GOP Twin---- You are a trolling jerk. And you show that you have few real views when you consistently call people names and attack them. I for one am getting sick of it. If you want to do it, go to the ring. Do you have any real views on the subject?

Stop tap dancing and tell answer my question (which you can't) "Who said the 1% were all Republicans in the first place?" Hmmm... it wasn't said anywhere above on this thread. Of course you can't answer it, Lady Jazzer just made that statement up out of thin air. And you come along and act like a fly on sh*t by getting all excited and trying to cover up for her. That's all you got babe... deflection, because you don't have any thing else.
