Did you even read the article. It has nothing to do with the Post Office... it's all about email.
AspenValley wrote: Actually, no I couldn't get the link to open. My reaction was to the post not the article. What does the article say?
Here.s the top of the article...
Hawaii's legislature is weighing an unprecedented proposal to curb the privacy of Aloha State residents: requiring Internet providers to keep track of every Web site their customers visit.
Its House of Representatives has scheduled a hearing this morning on a new bill (PDF) requiring the creation of virtual dossiers on state residents. The measure, H.B. 2288, says "Internet destination history information" and "subscriber's information" such as name and address must be saved for two years.
H.B. 2288, which was introduced Friday, says the dossiers must include a list of Internet Protocol addresses and domain names visited. Democratic Rep. John Mizuno of Oahu is the lead sponsor; Mizuno also introduced H.B. 2287, a computer crime bill, at the same time last week.
And the rest of the article goes on talking about retaining email correspondence on certain individuals who are under investigation... nothing about the US Post Office. Popcorn Eater was lying.
There are tools to safeguard your email and such. Not using these or not requiring the ISP to use these is the same as not locking the door to your home and then expecting the police department to station a cop on the corner of every block in the city. It is stupid. And just because some stupid politician has their email hacked is no reason to have the government become Big Brother.
It's not lying it's misleading. (again writer....)
Sorry to have you click on a new post in the courthouse...like the title makes a difference and you would not have clicked if I had titled it "another govt entity wants to keep all your data in case you go rogue"
It actually helps to make my point.
Arlen, just so you know, those of us that live in safe parts of the country, dont have to lock our car/house doors?
I am not concerned about the hackers in this thread, I am concerned about my govt. tracking things for no good reason except I may go rogue. Though if I was concerned about my info being hacked, perhaps my ISP not storing it for another 2 years would keep me safer. Think of the fruit in that database and surely, since everything must be at this point, it will be accessible on line, otherwise it would be of no real use to the police today.
Essentially, why not read people's mail and retain the content for 2 years, it would serve the same purpose.
Also, BTW, most American mail boxes have no lock, but somehow the internet with all your protections, is less secure? Have you seen the latest PO ad on TV, they are actually marketing based on the fact that there are little laws protecting your identity, the legislature makes damn sure of this and they are now using identity scare tactics to get you to shop with them in stead of email billing...because people can see your crap on line.
