300 arrested at Occupy protests in Oakland

After clashing with police, demonstrators break into City Hall and burn a U.S. flag. Mayor Quan calls on the movement to "stop using Oakland as its playground."

OAKLAND— Dozens of police maintained a late-night guard around City Hall in Oakland, California, following daylong protests that resulted in 300 arrests. Earlier, Occupy Oakland demonstrators broke into the historic building and burned a U.S. flag, and officers earlier fired tear gas to disperse people throwing rocks and tearing down fencing at a convention center.

Saturday's protests -- the most turbulent since Oakland police forcefully dismantled an Occupy encampment in November -- came just days after the group said it planned to use a vacant building as a social center and political hub and threatened to try to shut down the port, occupy the airport and take over City Hall.

An exasperated Mayor Jean Quan, who faced heavy criticism for the police action last fall, called on the Occupy movement to "stop using Oakland as its playground."

"People in the community and people in the Occupy movement have to stop making excuses for this behavior," Quan said.

Looks like our little band of entitlement criminals are ruffling their feather again in Oakland. They "planned to use a vacant building as a social center and political hub and threatened to try to shut down the port, occupy the airport and take over City Hall". Don't these special snowflakes understand that these private properties and public spaces do not belong to them? When I spent a half-day at the San Francisco Occupy camp, all I saw and spoke to were homeless people, drug addicts and street urchins. I couldn't get an intelligent answer to my question "why are you occupying Justin Herman Plaza and what do you hope to accomplish". Answers like "free college" and "I want all the debts in the world to be forgiven" is not intelligent answers. And those answers came from the few folks that I could find who were even able to answer in a coherent full sentence.

It's interesting, last week at the Newsweek Daily Beast website, George Soros predicted "As anger rises, riots on the streets of American cities are inevitable. “Yes, yes, yes,” he says, almost gleefully. The response to the unrest could be more damaging than the violence itself. “It will be an excuse for cracking down and using strong-arm tactics to maintain law and order, which, carried to an extreme, could bring about a repressive political system, a society where individual liberty is much more constrained, which would be a break with the tradition of the United States.”"

And just a few days ago AdBusters, which sparked the Occupy Movement, ran an article suggesting that "Protesters urged to occupy Chicago during G8 and Nato summits Activist group Adbusters calls on demonstrators to invoke spirit of Chicago Seven to pull off 'biggest multinational occupation'

The connection? "According to disclosure documents from 2007-2009, Soros' Open Society gave grants of $3.5 million to the Tides Center, a San Francisco-based group that acts almost like a clearing house for other donors, directing their contributions to liberal non-profit groups. Among others the Tides Center has partnered with are the Ford Foundation and the Gates Foundation. Disclosure documents also show Tides, which declined comment, gave Adbusters grants of $185,000 from 2001-2010, including nearly $26,000 between 2007-2009."

First off, the Occupy movement is not and innocent little piece of street theatre. It was planted, fed and watered by big money special interest, political sycophants (like our current administration) and supported by a under-layer of anarchists, neo-nazis (who will use any excuse to take advantage of societal upheavals), anti-semites, socialists, Marxists, communists, Nation of Islam, the government of North Korea, Hugo Chavez and Hezbollah (see full list at link below).

If you support this movement you support anarchism and a direct affront to our political system. This is not a grass roots movement, trying to become more politically involved like the Tea Party. The useful idiots on the street are being used and manipulated by a certain faction of the 1% who hope to enrich their money and power using the 99% to do their bidding. These people are no friends of this country.

As always... follow the money.

Perhaps Zhawke can shed some light on this one?

After all, just because those people were there doesn't mean they were part of the Occupy movement. Right?

Just because they were in the Occupy encampment does not mean they were part of the movement, itself. Unless you can provide factual information that implicates these individuals as actual members of the movement, your argument, in my opinion, is invalid.

Well... if you are talking about my stop at San Francisco... let's see... they were living in the tents, they were coming and going out of the odd 100 or so tents, they where working in the food storage tent, they were carrying signs, they were in the camp. Gee... I don't know what Zhawke or yourself are looking for... maybe a membership card or some sort of signed paperwork from the Occupy King or something.

Ok... I was being silly... but you're a f'king idiot. In that case... nothing you haven't put your actual hands on, tasted, smelt, touched, injested or injured yourself with is not real. It's just make believe crap on the internet.

Fool.

I have a better idea... address some of the points in the articles or my comments and stop being a useful idiot for Zhawke and deflecting the topic.

Just because they were arrested doesn't mean the arrests were legal either... We've already seen out-of-control stormtroopers have to dial it back, and in at least one case--(or is it two?)--resign because of their illegal actions...

Well... we'll leave that to the authorities... since you weren't there and you don't know jack sh** about what happened. But thanks for playing.

Oh you mean the government employees that are enforcing the government's laws? If these dirtbags were tea partiers, you would be squealing from the rooftops about how they should be jailed.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

OmniScience, Zhawke's proxy and Lady Jazzer are just trying to deflect and roger the threads topic. There is enough information in the thread topic for 4 or 5 different discussions. It's totally devised by them to try to deflect the interest from the Occupy people to subject and topic that have nothing to do with what's posted above. Dishonesty is their main motivation.

Their efforts won't change anything, the material above is there for anyone to read, investigate and research and all their deflection won't change the facts. If they want to waste their time trying to deflect, I have no problem pointing it out... over and over. I have plenty of time to sit here and cut their feet out from under them... and I get paid.

From what I've seen so far, most of the teabaggers ARE hateful dirtbags... but, your mileage may vary...
