I read she always takes the kids on a ski weekend on the President's Day holiday. She was in Vail last year.
It's not like she's staying at some fancy hotel in Aspen. She's a guest of the owner of ski resort and is staying at his place.
And no, I don't think presidents should stop vacation during their term. Do you expect that of anyone else? It's a high-pressure job and they need time to relax. But you're confusing Michelle with her husband. She can take as many vacations as she wants.
1. My guess is that the president is "on call" 24-7 the entire time he or she is in office.
2. Agreed, Mrs. Obama is not the president, just his wife and can vacation or buy shoes all she wants.
3. I don't want my employees to not have a vacation, not because I want them to leave and have to figure out how to deal without them, but because they are humans and their performance drops off without rest, so I get more out of them by working them less and doing vacations.....point being, that I expect way more from my president, it is way more stressful than working for me (most days), so he/she must have breaks. Though I would think more shorter breaks (few days here and there) vs. 11 day trips....but he is free to choose way more than the length of his vacation, we are talking about the president.
Okay, sorry but it is insensitive. If you talk about the economy and go on vacations to high end resorts it makes you look like a hypocrite. I am not defending anything that bush did but I do remember alot of his vacations at his ranch or home in texas. I may be wrong but it does show some stupidity and intensiveness by the pres and his wife. Just sayin..... if you want to look like you are for the people this is not the way to do it.
I agree CG, its not about the vacations to me, I don't care, its the hypocrisy. Trashing the 1%-ers, the corporate jets, the Vegas gamblers, millionaires, etc. But the Obamas do a good job with the Target and Best Buy photo-ops. LOL
If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2
Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.
Schlepping at someone's house while on vacation instead of staying in a rented private mansion is not a good message to send about being frugal? I wonder how many other current politicians spent their vacation skiing? Should they all just stay home and tell others to stay home, too?
Sorry, but she's made plenty of money in her life and her kids will only be kids once. It's not like she can't afford it on her own. Getting away from Washington for a three-day weekend and staying with someone in Aspen is not that big of a deal to me.
It's not like she's on her 10th vacation trip to the family compound in Kennebunkport.

Presdidents do need time to unwind and would allow them to have more vacations than normal people, but I do think it is better in this economy to play them lo-key. I don't think conspicuous consumption is as trendy as it used to be.
Plus Obama is not only America's CEO, he is also moonlighting as the principal fundraiser for the Dem party. rofllol Poor guy is working a double shift most weeks.
