Take oil shale for instance. It is frequently cited as an enormous reserve and has been for over fifty years. Yet nearly every exploration company has walked away from it as the energy and water costs to recover it are astronomical. Chevron walked away from it's leases just this past week. Fact! The tar sands oil that Keystone XL is purported need to carry is already being imported into the midwestern US. What Transcanada wants to do is to get it to a port location for export out of the US. Fact!
