One story said it was a Major, one said it was a General.

More likely it was a political decision passed down from Panetta. Of course I'm just speculating and connecting dots. :)

Normally, American forces in Afghanistan keep their weapons with them when the defense secretary visits and speaks to them. The Afghans in the tent waiting for Mr. Panetta were not armed to begin with, as is typical.

From the story in your original post that started this thread:

"You've got one of the most important people in the world in the room," Major General Mark Gurganus told reporters at Camp Leatherneck, dismissing concerns related to the shooting. "This is not a big deal."

He said he had given the order because the two dozen Afghan soldiers also there were unarmed and he did not want to treat them differently.

You should refrain from speculating and coming to your own conclusions and wait for the facts.

The Marines. The only branch of the services that can be dispatched by Presidential order without the OK of Congress.
Now having to disarm for a member of the Presidents Cabinet.
Sounds more like the left is playing victim to me. What are they afraid of?

Offending the Afghans of course. The current state of affairs is, shall we say, less than ideal at the moment what with members of their military executing members of our military and members of our military executing their civilians. One side is apologetic, one side is apoplectic.

Facts are boring. I want to hear rampant speculation, outrageous rumors, and hearsay. LOL
Anyway, I'm sure it was Biden's fault.

No we just get tired of your bullsh*& comments like this. Guess the left never gets tired of playing the victim on everything.

My opinion is that the decision was made due to all the events that have happened within the last 3 weeks. I do not have a problem with it, as I am thinking the MG was just trying to keep things on a somewhat even keel. But that is just my opinion.
