A proposed new law in Arizona would give employers the power to request that women being prescribed birth control pills provide proof that they're using it for non-sexual reasons. And because Arizona's an at-will employment state, that means that bosses critical of their female employees' sex lives could fire them as a result. If we could harness the power of the crappy ideas coming out of the state of Arizona, we could probably power a rocket ship to the moon, where there are no Mexicans or fertile wombs and everyone can be free to be as mean a cranky a**hole as they want at all times! Arizona Heaven!
Yesterday, a Senate Judiciary Committee endorsed Republican Debbie Lesko's HB2625 by a vote of 6-2, which would allow an employer to request proof that a woman using insurance to buy birth control was being prescribed the birth control for reasons other than not wanting to get pregnant.
1) This law would save women a lot of trouble. If you are working for an employer who would fire your ass for using birth control pills only for sex, I am betting many more issues will crop up with same employer. Misogny? Religious Intimidation? Etc.
2) More useless legislation, if you told your gyno what your employer was doing, most, if not all, would say the Pill was a medical necessity.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
I was just in a conversation about employers having too much info on an employee yesterday. I wouldn't work for anyone that think they deserve that kind of info on me. This is disgusting. The 'whore pills' thing was used for shock value.
I think everyone is overlooking the big picture here. Here everybody is- distracted by these issues and we fail to see what's really going on here.
The government is taking over our lives- one issue at a time- again and again and again- there is almost no aspect of our lives that big brother has not stuck his thumb into. The reason why this particular issue has come to light - is because the government is now in the birth control business.
Everytime this happens- one group of people tries to regulate an issue- say birth control pills- by means of government- the problems start.
No way can government provide a one-stop one-size-fits-all solution to any issue or problem. What appears as a solution to one interest group- is offensive to other groups.
So we see a counter initiative by an offending group- then we see additional laws and regulations to counter the original regulation- then we see protests and lobbying by the various interest groups- then we see court challanges- both against the original government power grab- and those counter initiatives like this proposed law in Arizona. One group starts suing the other- and so on and so on. It's terribly wasteful of money, time and human resources. It's not worth all this.
In the middle of all this- the retoric and propaganda starts to fly- slut this, and whore pill that.
Don't you people see- don't you see where the problem started? The problem started when some people thought that the government needed to get involved! The problem is the people who think that government is the solution to every issue or problem.
This cat fight on just this one detail of the health care takeover is just the very tip of the iceburg- there are literally hundreds of issues like this- and we will be fighting and pissing and litigating these things for years to come.
Do you all think all this crap is really worth it? Because there's a much more simple solution to all this- keep the damn government out of our lives. Let the free market determine which insurance policies will cover birth control- and which ones will not. Let the individual choose- don't give up you're individual freedom and liberty and choice in these matters- don't trade all that away for a "government solution".
What is acceptable to "liberals for government funded contraception" is offensive to those with religious objections- and vise versa. There is no central solution to this issue without stomping on the convictions of the other group. The only solution that works is for people to STOP all these constant attempts to resolve these issues by the force of government.
This is why libertarians have for years advocated that the government stay out of social issues and stick to it's core functions. They really are trying to control every aspect of our lives. I don't want the government getting involved in the contraception issue at all- I don't want them telling men they can or can not have viagra either- keep the damn government the hell out of these issues.
And this is just one issue out of thousands that the government has no business getting involved with. You all can't see where this is going? The real enemy here are the people who keep butting into our personal lives with a government mandated solution.
We would all be better off without it.
And P.S. an employer can fire you for any reason- or no reason at all (well except for a few government regulations) - so if you think you are protected by government- you all are sadly mistaken. You can sue in court- but just about any reason is a legal grounds for firing an employee. If you're employer does not like you- you are out!

You speak on deaf ears my friend, but I commend you for not throwing your hands in the air with a LOT of different people around here. I COMPLETELY agree with you Sir.

"Law Will Allow Employers to Fire Women for Using Whore Pills"... where in THIS LAW is the language that allows them to fire women for using birth control? I'll wait.

There are many that completely agree, but we get very little press, sticking with the libritarian system would mean that everyone in power would have to decide to give themselves less power, it just wont happen.
So on the flipside, if you want to fire someone and catch crap for it you will say you are firing them because they are a slut, if you are in business to be in business and keep doing you business, you will fire them for not meeting your expectations, for not telling the truth or for any one of the 1000 things people do on a daily basis that can get them fired.
So I agree that the gov has no place being involved, it is only the naive employer willing to spend days as a headline on the huffpost that would actually use this law. Bottom line, employees are subject to firing at any time, for any unstated reason. If you don't want to be at risk of being fired, don't be an employee.
These laws are for show and to get you talking again off issue, get them to stop making laws that don't matter.
An employee is less free, has less rights and is in a different class no matter how many laws you want to make or stop.
What's next, the govt will try and step forward and say who can marry who, and in what manner they can have sex.... when will it end? lol
here is a copy of the bill...it is not about employment....it is about another thing that does not need laws associated with it....marriage and property seperation, etc. Unless this link is also a typo.
Perhaps this is why the article that was posted and the one that it referred to both decided NOT to include links to the bill text. Why not just say the bill is about making teen girls eat beef slime if your gonna blur reality.
nevermind.....
This may only be part of the bill, I found another snip that has to do with road hauling with the same number from 2011. Perhaps having the govt and bills address one massive problem in society at a time would help this process....
