Male/Female Wage Differences

I have found what makes the big gap. Professional sports.
The first pick in the NBA draft will make 20 million. The first pick in the WNBA gets 46K.

Talk about un-equality.

It's all about who draws the bigger audience...pure economics. My wife went to the women's final four last night and said it just wasn't the same as watching the men...even though she watched the men on TV.

Both my daughters are in sports and I get just as excited watching them as I do my son (maybe a little more because they are better atheletes for their ages). But I can't get real excited about women's pro sports unless it's a sport like Tennis where they are on a more equal level. The Olympics are different, I think I like watching the women compete as much or more..especially in gymnastics.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

No, it's not all about who draws audiences - the networks don't put any effort into promoting women's sports like they do mens, don't show them in prime viewing slots, and otherwise dismiss them as "not really worth anything". Of course they don't birng in as much money to pay their athletes.

What exactly do you mean by "on a more equal level?" The women don't train as hard as the men, their women-to-women matches aren;t as rigorous, or there's no way they could beat men except in tennis? Altho it's not physical, I'm betting that there are women billiards players that could kick the mens ^sses any day. Your sentence just doesn't make any sense to me, sorry. Would you care to explain?

I don't agree...if the networks had a demand for womens sports, they would be promoting them more. It's always about money and whoever can draw the most viewers.

And by different level, I don't mean unequal in how hard they train or how skilled they are...it's just the biological differences that can't be denied. People like watching the extremes....how many times do you see a woman dunking from the free throw line or at all..not very often. Men are naturally more violent as well...and we already know from tv that violence sells. Like I said, i have two girls in sports and really enjoy watching them as much as my son...or more. But there is a reason why men don't want to watch women play sports as much, and it's not because men don't like watching women in general.

And I'm sure there are lots of women who could beat the best men in billiards, but who watches billiards? Or bowling?

Why are there no womens pro baseball on tv? Could it be because the chances of knocking one out of the park is much slimmer? I think so.

I think women are better than men in most areas and would love to see a woman president. But when it comes to physical strength, aggression, and pure violence, men have cornered the market since the beginning of time. You can deny that fact, but you can't show any evidence that I'm wrong other than anecdotal.

I don't agree about networks choosing to promote men's sports over women's. When the women sports have compelling characters like the Williams sisters women's tennis outpreformed men's tennis in the ratings. Same thing with figure skating. Solo men skaters aren't nearly well known as the women. BTW women and men make the same in tennis right now.

Sports, eh? When are brains going to make the difference? Denver TV has all their prep sports and athletes of the week who are good in sports and have great GPAs, but you sure don't see any other kids featured who aren't into sports with great GPAs.

It's sickening.

That's the sports world which is driven by revenue.

In the real world single women in their 20's now make more money than men. In addition to that, I believe women still account for 60% of active college students.

Interesting. So it's a chicken:egg problem. No interest = no promotion, no promotion = no interest. Women are villainized for getting aggressive so their sports matches are more boring, but also hate that they have to play nasty to get attention. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/11/sport ... lence.html

Speaking of violence, have you ever been to a roller derby match?

Never heard of women being villainized for being aggressive, but maybe you could give some examples? I agree it's sad, but you also don't see stadiums filling up by women who want to watch women either. Roller derby was pretty entertaining back in the day, but where are they now and how many want to buy a ticket? From my experience, girls get as many people to watch them compete until high school, then the draw becomes less through college and then much worse in the pros.

One of the fastest growing "sports" is mixed martial arts fighting....but I don't think there's much of a demand to see women bashing each others faces in or breaking bones....but when it comes to men doing it, it just seems normal.

I think the real blame should be on nature, God, or whatever made men and women so different. The good news for women is that they are surpassing men in other areas and continue to outlive men on average.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I went to a roller derby event last year. About 5000 people were there. Unlike the old days when the teams were both men and women, now it is all women. It was fun, but the women are only doing it for fun. Amateurs.
