Good point. Sundance... I've seen one... was invited to a week long Sundance by a Lakota family I was very close to... on the Pine Ridge Reservation. I guess people like Popcorn Eater would mock them too!
How TRULY privileged you were......how long ago was this?........I think I would have to smoke MANY peace pipe to be in that space
to view this ceremony....

Are you kidding me?
I question whether they were christians or whether christians believe what they are doing is christian (that's most of you people right?)
I give a link and don't even comment much (as I usually do).
And state the obvious that faith can make people do odd things. (please argue this, I would love to read it, but you don't ever answer completely or directly - so I will not be waiting)
This stuff is not that common these days and if this happened in the US would make you forget about Travon, would result in criminal charges, etc.
I have no issues with them stabbing themselves or letting others do it, I would have no issue with you doing it too, especially if you did it to show me how closed minded I was.
But you are all talk, "I went to a ceremony outside of my narrow culture, but it obviously did not open my mind" wahoo.
All I did was point out a unique act, if this is common in your world, please share more.

I believe it was 2003. How truly humble I was to be invited. I thought it was going to be a breeze, hang around, watch the dances, maybe have a few beers. No... the "spectators" work hard... we were there to support the dancers, our "energy," standing around the circle, under a covered arbor, still very hot, dusty... we pounded our feet with the beat of the dance, almost 14 hour days, starting at sunrise... it was "hard" work, exhausting in it's own way... rarely seen by wasichu eyes.
Oh yes... while I was there, I found out what wasichu meant. And yes... before then end of the week, the pipe was passed to me and my ex-wife.
