Death of the [Austerity]/Confidence Fairy Tale

Considering the way you've been treating him, I'm surprised he's not said worse. If you have a problem with him, I see there's a thread for it in the Ring now - that's where posters are free to duke it out should they wish, let's please keep our Courthouse for civil debate and discussion.

I understand that politics is a passionate subject, but name calling and demeaning others isn't really necessary, and is the province of the weak who have no strong position IMO. And that's meant in the general sense, as I see a bunch of it here lately. We're better than this guys, as evidenced by 2 years of success, let's try to continue that vein please.

Thanks.

Really SC? You are calling out PrintSmith on this? Maybe you need to review the new imposter poster Sheldons posts, whoever it is was looking for trouble. I always thought P.S. was a good contributor to the site.

Here is how another failing Euro-socialistic nation is handling unemployment.

Young Italians flock to become shepherds - Pay is poor and the hours are long, but there is job security, fresh air and as much pecorino cheese as you can eat.

As Italy’s unemployment rate topped 10pc this week, it emerged that young people are flocking to become shepherds.
Traditionally the preserve of older men, the profession has recently attracted 3,000 young Italians, according to agricultural body Coldiretti.

They are choosing a simple life in the great outdoors because their aspirations to become doctors, lawyers or engineers have been thwarted by Italy’s negligible economic growth, which has been compounded by grinding austerity measures.

Davide Bortoluzzi, 25, has a degree in surveying from a technical institute but, unable to find a job, now keeps a watchful eye on a flock of 400 sheep in the Dolomites of northern Italy.

“I’m happy with the choice I’ve made,” he said. “I started out by following other shepherds and learning the ropes from them. It was not easy. But, day by day, I made progress without becoming too discouraged, sometimes working in pouring rain and at other times under a burning sun.”

This would be a great idea for some of those lazy-entitlement-I-want-what-is-yours-why-can't-I-find-a-job-I-have-a-degree-in-puppetry Occupy Wall Street slobs. Nah... it's to much like work.

The 20's was the 20's... The 30's was the 30's... To assume that doing the same things that gave us the worst Depression in history will work this time by screwing the middle class and the poor, and the seniors, to give additional tax-breaks to the top 1% (in hopes that it will "trickle-down"--it won't) is folly, and we have the proof staring us in the face in the Eurozone....

And I should care about the opinions of neo-fascists because . . . . . . . .

You must have Science Chic on "ignore" since your post above is a prime example of what Science Chic is trying to tell people to stop doing. "Neo-fascists"... nice name calling.

You betcha. Did you know that Austerity was named word of the year in 2010 by Merriam-Webster? http://www.merriam-webster.com/info/10words.htm

I personally liked shellacking and ebullient better myself, but they only came in at 7 & 8, respectively. I started practicing austerity with my diet, not because I wanted to or had to financially, but just because I got too damn busy to eat. Dropped 5lbs last year between August and November, managed to hold the line there (hubby was yelling at me); interestingly, one of the best confirmed ways to increase longevity is to do a calorie restriction diet (1500 calories or less/day) - I'm well on my way to living to 150!:) 90 hour work weeks don't jive well with food breaks...

I switched to 3.2 Miller lite beer, and less meat/ more veggies! LOL

Another way is to split meals at restaurants, we've been doing that for years. But I tip 20% to compensate.
