"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer."

Do the homeless children agree that they don't want assistance? Are we going to arrest children living on the streets...or just their parents?

Nope... they will be placed in foster care.

Homeless families get a choice - get into a shelter and off the streets or have the children placed into foster care where the State can provide for them what their parent(s) either can't or won't. Leaving the children with their parents, camping out on the streets of a city where they are in constant danger isn't an option that a civilized society should be willing to accept, is it?

Right...do we have as much shelter space as we have a need for?

That has no direct bearing with outlawing camping. It's another issue.

Perhaps not - but that can change if the space is lacking. Perhaps if we lowered the tax burden the people are under they would have more funds available to help support those shelters instead of hoping that their tax dollars can change the plight of these families.

One blanket policy cannot deal with the homeless. Some are loafers, some are extremely mentally ill, some are out of luck. There is a myriad of reasons and driving them away is not the answer for some.
