Fortunate Son: George W. Bush and the Making of an American President

Alleges that, in 1972, George W. Bush was arrested for possession of cocaine and, with the help of his father, got the charges erased in exchange for performing community service. Most of the information in the book has been covered in newspapers and magazines; however, it does put under one cover, the extraordinary advantages of having rich friends who are so eager to share their wealth, their expertise, and their silence with seemingly no desire for return. It talks about the AWOL mystery, how he wriggled out of the mandatory annual medical exams, and how he simply stopped flying even after the taxpayers had forked over a million dollars for his flight training. There are 50 pages of references.

Yeah, c'mon... Let's get your mud-slinging hat on... :woo hoo:

Who was doing the mud slinging?

There's a really funny Dave Chappelle bit on White people and weed that I'll post in the Ring, meanwhile:

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Catch Penn Gillette's rant condemning Obama for continuing the drug war although if he would have been busted in high school or college his presidential aspirations would have been over? Good thoughts. I hope Barack will reconsider if he wins re-election and ramps down the war on drugs. If Obama loses in November he can always go on tour with Cheech & Chong.

Because he knows the majority is stupid,,,

He tried being a fox but people won't believe much of what he has to say now since he has lied so much. Figure he is so drugged up which results in stupid decisions. How else do you account for the even bigger mess he has made.

So what? Probably 50%, or more, of the people you know smoke pot.

Did he ever get a DUI from it? Did it prevent him from getting into Harvard?

Getting ones panties in a bunch because of pot is a waste of time, people of the world have been using cannabis forever. All of the hysteria is manufactured by the people who make money by keeping it illegal.

It's becoming more and more apparent that many posters on here have no interest in doing anything but complaining and whining and smearing the "other" side, even to the ends of being dishonest just to get a jab in. Having a discussion about the ISSUES and not the manufactured outrages, snarkiness and personality attacks seems virtually impossible on 285. This place is becoming more and more of a muddy soul sucking ditch than a road of discussion to try and improve the human condition.

:yeahthat:

I find myself spending more and more time on other message boards. Interesting that this is the only board I frequent where hostilities reign supreme in the political threads.....

OK, I have to add that I like this board, it's "home", but I dislike that no comment can be made without being attacked, and no poster can express an opinion without being PERSONALLY attacked......that's kinda sad. It's a culture that has developed here, I'm not sure why, maybe because it is unmoderated....but I am on other unmoderated/lightly-moderated boards and we all, liberal and conservative, seem to be more interested in issues than knock-em-down-drag-em-out fights. interesting.

Exactly Neptune.....if we all took a good look at ourselves, then maybe we would see room for improvement in our interactions with others. I am assuming you meant that post for ALL the posters here, right and left........I hope so. Nothing ever improves if only half the posters see a problem.

Enough wishful thinking for tonight.....we've had this discussion many, many, times here but nothing ever changes. I am curious if others have any insight into why this particular group of posters have such a hard time putting aside the rancor to just discuss the issues and not play gotcha with every new outrage on the internet. Is it the thin air? the mountain isolation? too few social activities? Have we all forgotten what social interaction usually consists of?

Deep thoughts in the middle of a wind storm....I think I will head outside and see how mother Nature has re-arranged my deck this time.

No you don't...

LadyJazzer wrote: Oh... Well, if he REALLY wants to go down that path, I can post links to confirmation of Bush's cocaine-use and Laura Bush's killing of a passenger in her car due to alcohol-use.

But I'm waiting to see if he can post EVEN ONE attribution of Obama doing ANYTHING wrong such as he is accusing him of.
