Last week, the Jill Stein for President campaign placed over a hundred thousand dollars worth of airtime on cable TV nationally and in select markets across the country. The ads are scheduled to air tomorrow, Tuesday through this Thursday, to raise important progressive issues key to our nation's future that will not be discussed during the corporate-sponsored Democratic National Convention.
This morning, Google --which served as a broker for placement of our national satellite and cable television ad placements-- informed Jill Stein for President that they were censoring the campaign's ads due to "inappropriate language."

What a difference an election makes. <snip> But in 2012, President Obama now has a record to defend, so this edition of the party platform has a much different feel. Instead of sweeping promises and grand goals, it emphasizes what the incumbent has managed to achieve despite governing during a historic economic downturn. There is no mention of a few failed Democratic initiatives, including an effort to pass "cap-and-trade" legislation to curb U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases, and his opponent, Mitt Romney, is criticized for what he has said, not what he has done.
On climate, a retreat from cap and trade.
The 2012 edition drops any reference to cap-and-trade legislation (which stalled in the U.S. Senate in 2010 after squeaking through the U.S. House of Representatives), and to "binding and enforceable" international commitments. Instead, it says Democrats "will seek to implement agreements and build on the progress made during climate talks in Copenhagen, Cancun, and Durban, working to ensure a response to climate change policy that draws upon decisive action by all nations. Our goal is an effective, international effort in which all major economies commit to reduce their emissions, nations meet their commitments in a transparent manner, and the necessary financing is mobilized so that developing countries can mitigate the effects of climate change and invest in clean energy technologies." Fine, cap-and-trade was a stupid, inept idea anyway; but the rest of that statement - rhetorical, pansy-ass, noncommittal bullshit demonstrating that they have no plans to lead the way by example. F*** that.
Backing alternative energy, but using a different yardstick to measure progress.
Mixed report on basic research spending, space, and tax policy goals.
A call for an immigration policy that helps the economy.
A more muted nuclear weapons policy?
A bipartisan nod to international public health.
Support for science and math teachers.
Addressing climate change and reducing demand for fossil fuels are out, and more neuroscience research and space science missions are in. Those shifts from 2008 are evident in the 2012 Republican Party Platform approved yesterday at the GOP’s national convention in Tampa, Florida. Among the highlights:
Climate change does a disappearing act. While the 2008 platform spent nearly two pages on "addressing climate change responsibly" and "reducing demand for fossil fuels" in order to cut emissions of greenhouse gases, the topics are barely mentioned in the current version. Also gone is the 2008 platform's proposal for a government-sponsored "Climate Prize," which would award millions of dollars to “scientists who solve the challenges of climate change.” Of course it has, because they aren't going to lead on this front either, they have to follow their masters orders to keep the money rolling in
Alternative energy gets a qualified vote of confidence.
"Strategic immigration" of scientists and engineers gets a plug.
A warning against politicized science.
Continued support for biomedical research, and opposition to human embryonic stem cell studies.
A retreat from human space flight?
Unhappiness with stockpile stewardship and missile defense.
Kudos for African health program.
Make the R&D tax credit permanent.
The Dems and the Reps aren't going to do what needs to be started in earnest. Stein hasn't been in office so there's no track record of actions to confirm her claims of what she'll do, but I know that electing the same old, same old isn't going to go anywhere and we are behind in addressing this problem, so she's the best option if the environment and breaking out of this decades old rut of the government not getting anything effectively accomplished through multi-partisan leadership is your priority. Now that the Democratic convention is underway, and the Republican convention is history, both parties have released their respective “party platforms” for 2012, and both are bad news for the environment.
Neither of these platforms present American voters with much to be excited about when it comes to preserving our environment. And given that American voters this year have said that the environment isn’t much of a concern, it's likely that we’ll have to weather another four years of inaction on climate change and other environmental threats, regardless of which candidate gets elected in November.
(She ran against Romney for governor so the interviewer asked her what it was like to debate against Romney - for a chuckle, go read her response at the end of Page 3) lolThe Green New Deal is an emergency plan that follows two crises, the jobs crisis and the climate crisis. It's called the Green New Deal because it's based on the New Deal that brought us out of the Great Depression. It's a similar concept of directly creating jobs, unlike the stimulus package that was in majority tax breaks for large corporations.
The Green New Deal not only jump starts the economy, but creates a different economy. Rather than propping up a fake economy of high finance, it creates a localized green economy, with jobs that can be filled by people in community who most need them - low income people with low education rates.
It's common wisdom that 75 percent of that money is spent treating chronic diseases. How do we change that? Like mom always said: Eat healthy, exercise, and I would add avoid pollution. A windfall benefit of a green economy is that we stop making ourselves sick.
One of the incredible windfalls is that green energy makes wars for oil obsolete. And that's another trillion dollars a year that could be cut.

come on you progressives, liberals, lefties, and people who care for the earth. Vote for JillScience Chic wrote: rofllol hell no! We need to shake up the way politics is done if we want to fix the mess we're in. That means getting the good ole boys out of the majority. Even a significant enough of a percentage of independents in Congress will force both Republicans and Democrats to "court" the independents - ie, tailor their bills to win their votes to their side. That's the beginning of compromise, and legislation that actually benefits the public. I want Green and Libertarian points of view included because there is strength in diversity - proven time and time again in real life throughout history.
