LOL Contest FAIL!

This is funny. I checked the URL, and then the IP, and found a name and address. The name is the same as the original architect of a building that greenpeace scaled to hang a banner back in February - but the architect designed the building starting in 1832 :)

It gets better. The banner they hung was in protest of Shell Oil's planned arctic drilling.

By the way, that's all public domain info - I refrained from posting the currently alive William Wilkin's address and phone number where he apparently runs several servers and owns many domains. I'm not saying he had anything to do with the contest page, but dang! what an amazing set of coincidences.

The real story:

Two months ago, an “Arctic Ready” website appeared online. Festooned with Shell Oil’s logo, it purported to be a site dedicated to educating the public about Shell’s drilling for oil up North. It even included an interactive “ social media” component — an “ad generator” allowing visitors to caption photos supposedly provided by Shell. It looked a lot like Shell’s own Arctic-focused section of its site. But it is and was a fake, created by anti-Shell groups. And despite the fact that it has been reported as fake repeatedly, visitors continue to be duped by it and so it continues to generate controversy for Shell.

Using a logo like this is a big problem. I agree they most likely have grounds.
