The City of Thornton hereby prohibits the open carrying of a firearm, as defined in Section 38-237 of the Code, in any city building or in or upon any city property including but not limited to parks, open spaces or trails that exist within the City of Thornton and that have a sign posted at the entrance to any city building or city property informing persons that the open carrying of firearms is prohibited in such building or area.

237 is the relevant section which simply states on your body a dangerous weapon which includes handguns.

here's the language straight out of the law that Thornton nailed him with....

The following shall be an Affirmative defense;
(d)(4) A person issued a written permit to carry a concealed handgun issued by any sheriff authorized to issue such permits within the State and the carrying of such weapon is within the terms of such permit.

But he WAS NOT carrying a concealed handgun, he WAS open carry which is NOT covered by that exception.

You are wrong. Even the thornton law says you are wrong-literally.

PS- show me in the state law where it says that every CCW holder must have the weapon concealed.

Show me where it says that.

So if CCW permits cover open carry, then why is it legal to have a CCW in Denver, but not open carry? CCW only covers concealed weapons.

Just an update on this topic- and another reality check for the Lefties who injected their usual delusional opinions regarding this issue.

It seems that the little fiefdom of Thornton has decided it would be prudent to tuck their tail between their legs and go sit in the corner. Authorities dismissed charges yesterday against James Mapes who was arrested while carrying a gun into a movie theater.

Mr. Mapes attorney stated to KOA radio yesterday that his client has not ruled out the possibility of a federal action against the City of Thornton, CO.

This is a prime example of what happens when city officials (cops) over-react to these types of situations- and fail to read even their own city ordinances.

Additionally- you gotta wonder about those lefties who posted on here about how this guy was guilty of all these infractions, and just how wrong they were about it. Will you all go back and read your posts again to see where you went astray>?

Maybe the problem is just your attitudes- and the fact that your commie colored glasses prevent you all from seeing reality! Or maybe it's just that you don't care about our rights at all, deep down you don't give a crap- I offer the following quote as evidence...

Charges Dropped Against Man Who Wore Gun In Theater
DENVER -- Charges have been dismissed against a Northglenn man who was arrested after he wore a sidearm into a Thornton movie theater.

Apparently Mr. Mapes did nothing wrong.
My guess is some prissy busy body was checking out his budge and was shocked, shocked I tell you, to see a holstered pistol instead of what was expected. rofllol rofllol rofllol
