Unions hit Democratic convention where it hurts

The discussion wasn't about Obama's union supporters to switch to Romney...it was about getting them to vote at all. Ryan could very well energize a lot of Democrats that were apathetic about this election. The Ryan budget was considered as punitive to many segments of society in the extreme...seniors too will be more inclined to make the effort as the see Ryan as a threat to their future security and ability to get health care through medicare.

Maybe. It depends on how many seniors care about their g.kid future vs. how many are content to see them grow up as ignorant enslaved morlocks.

BTW, the Ryan budget does not slash government , it slows the rate of growth.

I think a lot of seniors care more about the future of their children and grand children than they do about their own. Maybe it's just me, but when i was at my sickest during chemo, I worried more about what would happen with my family if I was to die. My wife ended up getting a great job and that (along with my life insurance), made me feel 100% better.

I have faith that there are more seniors who understand how our debt is choking out their kid's futures than those who are worried about themselves. I feel like I've lived in the easiest of times in the greatest country ever... I want leaders who are willing to make the tough choices that can pull this country back from financial ruin.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

List one Republican that Mitt could have picked that would have you vote for him? Ryan does very well with the MODERATE Dens in his district. But you aren't one of those?

Please show me where I posted anything about democrats changing over to vote for Romney.....Romney could have picked Hillary and I wouldn't vote for him, he WAS a moderate, now he has embraced the far right wing radical agenda and that, I believe, will bring Democrats to the voting booth in droves.

Well we'll soon see who is right. I just don't think the energy on the left is nearly as strong as it was in 2008 where as we on the right have been watching the US implode in slow motion. I will walk through broken glass if i have to.

I resent your implication in this post....did you take your nasty insult pills this morning? Most seniors ARE interested in the future for their children and grand children, and I am among them. That is precisely why I am so against a Ryan type budget that will punish future generations of middle class Americans and seniors, and the disabled.....I care deeply about the country and the economy my generation will leave to future generations. Ryan's proposals will not effect current seniors (at least that is the way I read it), so it isn't selfishness that drives my dislike of his proposals, it is deep, deep, concern for the direction he and Romney would take this country.

We definitely need to get our budget and deficit under control....and anyone with an accounting or economic background knows that you have to balance income and expenses to do that....Ryan only wants to work on the expenses side, and still reduce income from the wealthier Americans and corporations. So where will the needed income come from? You and me my friend, and our kids, and our grandkids. OK, maybe not my son who is well on his way to being a 1%er, but he too realizes that a Ryan plan is wrong for America and would fundamentally change this nation. Until the Republicans start making the hard decisions on increasing revenue along with cutting spending they will never get my vote.

You would have been right yesterday, but today, with Ryan on the ticket, it's a whole new ball game......I would walk through your broken glass with a Grizzly bear waiting at the end to vote against Paul Ryan......and I will bet there are a lot of Democrats who didn't care so much yesterday who would walk with me today.

But you have to agree that there was a lot of excitement for Obama by people who never (or rarely) voted in large part because he was the first black nominee to either party. It really was an exciting time for the country, even though we on the right were very nervous about his views. Remember the massive crowds and sold out stadiums? They are now having trouble getting all the DNC seats filled.

I just don't see people who don't pay attention to politics being as excited to vote this time unless they are very happy or very scared about how the economy is progressing.

Someone seems to have either forgotten or been unaware of Ryan's hometown - Janesville WI - home of a shuttered Government Motors plant. Those union members sent him to Congress to represent them - 7 times.
