Let's see. It's OK for taxpayers to pay out the ying yang for defense when defense is more about lining the pockets of Congress and defense contractors than it is about developing weapons that work, manufacturing more of those weapons, and getting the right gear for our riflemen. We have fewer soldiers than during WWII but we have more government workers in the Pentagon than during that same period.
Yet, when it comes to taking care of our citizens, and healthcare for our true boots on the ground riflemen, Congress and nuts of the GOP AND Democrats turn their backs. And, if they DO speak for it, they are also looking for ways to profit from it themselves, meaning, money in their bank accounts.
Penalties, interest, seizure of assets including bank accounts, report delinquencies to credit agencies - but you're correct, at this point in time, subject to alteration at any point in the future, no prison time.

Quite consistent with the thoughts of President Cleveland when he vetoed a piece of legislation pronouncing that while the people support the government, the government should not support the people. You remember that quote from an earlier exchange, don't you 2w?
Also, the DoD budget represents a smaller share of the federal budget than it has at nearly any point in the union's history. Before the federal government chose to involve itself in the individual welfare of the citizens of the States the defense budget represented half or more of the total federal budget, now it is somewhere around 20% of the entire budget. Social Security, all by itself, is a bigger federal expense than the common defense of the union is today. We're spending in excess of $2 Trillion every year on "mandatory" individual welfare programs. MediCare/MediCaid spending surpasses the defense spending and the unemployment/welfare/SNAPS/other "mandatory" spending isn't far behind - it was over 85% of the amount of money spent on defense in 2010. We are spending nearly double the amount on individual welfare than we are on every other function of government at the moment. That isn't enough for you yet?

Correct, people relying on a free pass from hounding by the IRS are going to be in for a surprise. Actually I am looking forward to the confusion, chaos and complaining in 2014. You asked for it, you got it. Don't like the Obamacare mandate, just make less money, and its mostly free, they say.
